I was super happy to see Earl Mitchell consistently beat his man. Our D-line is going to be unstoppable. Now we just need some outside pressure and we can start breaking some records.
Deandre Hopkins catch was #1 on the Top 10 plays but all the ESPN guys talked about was the Vikings helmets. They didn't even acknowledge the play. Oh well.
I went to a buddy's house to watch the game/drink some margs. Needless to say, I didn't pay too much attention then, but am watching it right now before I hit the sack...and damn....the catch by DeAndre was a man move.
After it was apparent that Tavon Austin was going to be picked high, Hopkins was the WR I hoped would be around when the Texans picked. It's only the preseason, but this kid has the skills to be special. On top of that being able to learn from 'Dre is a huge blessing for him (and the team). With 'Dre, Foster, Daniels, and Hopkins, they're going to be tough to stop. It all comes down to Schaub,
I know the media has been hyping Dennis Johnson a lot for the past week or so, but I wonder how much folks would believe in him had he not played for an SEC school. To me, Cierre Wood is simply better -- especially in this scheme. Hits the hole quickly and decisively and switches gears with ease. Johnson might be a shade better in pass protection, but I'd much rather take Wood based on his other tools and hope he can be coached into a better blocker in time. Hoping Wood gets the No. 2 reps next week to see what he does against better competition.
My father-in-law, who is a casual football fan that roots for the Vikings likes to talk smack. Apparently, Cordarrelle Patterson is going to be the next Randy Moss, and there's no possibility that Hopkins will be better, because he doesn't know who Hopkins is. Oh yeah, and the Texans are going nowhere because they don't have a quarterback (I responded with, "Wait, who is the Vikings qb?!?!"). Oh yeah, and our running back won't be very good this year because he missed half the year last year with a lisfranc injury. Also, Andre Johnson is old (I told him how he had one of his best years last year...possibly the best of his career). So you heard it here first, the Texans are doomed. We did make a friendly wager (of nothing) that Hopkins would have a better year this year than Patterson. I told him Patterson could still bust. Of course, I also told him he could be the best of the bunch. He refused to believe me that Hopkins will fall somewhere between Roddy White and Larry Fitzgerald, though. And when I said Hopkins will be the Rookie of the Year, winning me this bet, he said, "most wide receivers take a few years to develop." Whatever. Nice guy, but I can't debate football with him....
Wood really impressed me last night, the timing of his cuts is instinctual, on the money.I thought he was the best of the bunch. Johnson didn't stand out and his run backs were below par.
Deji Karim didn't look bad either. And Ray Graham looked good on the TD run and the few carries on the last drive when we were running out the clock. All 3 of Wood, Karim, and Graham were at or over 6 ypc. The only one that looked kind of "meh" was Johnson.
Hopkins will be a star in this league. So lucky to be able to draft him in time for the superbowl runs and then have a heir apparent to AJ for the next decade.
What I took from this game is that case keenum is our future qb. Maybe not this year but some where down the road. His roll outs, bootlegs, fake hand offs, play action plays really impressed me the way he sells you on them. He fooled me a few times even fooled the camera man a few times too. like that jean td pass. Really looking forward to this year and the next few to come.
