In terms of pure shooting ability, I'd say Kobe. But MJ would establish himself deeper in the post before he let fly (15ish feet instead of 20ish for Kobe), so I'd say MJ overall for that reason alone.
That's a terrible way to analyze it. If you are going to look at shooting percentage you could at least look at TS% but even that wouldn't be the way to go about it.
MJ has a 99 mid range while Kobe only has a 96 on 2k13. So MJ. oh and i lost my virginity to spacejam.
MJ was a much smarter player than Kobe, who's shot selection is completely idiotic sometimes. MJ never became his own worst enemy like Kobe, which is one of the key things separating the two.
Well talent wise, Kobe. But he fades and makes his shot so much more difficult. But MJ was automatic from midrange because he would establish himself and make it an easier shot. I pick MJ. There's a bballbreakdown video that compares the two, too.
Going off the "eye test", Jordan was the better layup maker (probably best layup maker all time), better in the paint. I'd put Kobe's midrange outside the paint just as good if not a hair better on natural ability Kobe's issue of course is forcing up needless shots. Thats the frustrating part about bad shot selection, like Tracy McGrady, they make shots harder than they need to and you can't get a true read on their REAL shooting ability, cuz you know they're gonna force up 2-3 "superstar" junk shots a game that they sometimes make and get away with.

MJ by far the better player but Kobe has a slightly better midrange jumper I think. Both are deadly from midrange. Kobe takes a lot of bad midrange shots though, lots of long contested 2s.
there are players that have better midrange than kobe or MJ. Henderson for the bobcats is one of them
