A lot of filmmakers who can consistently strike gold with lower budgets have often cited that finally getting that 'blockbuster budget' is the glaring handicap in maintaining their talent for said film. Lets hope Kamp doesn't fall into that category. (Not saying I believe he will though, this looks fantastic)
I am impressed the studio was ok in allowing the movie to keep it's "R" rating. That will cut into potential revenues.
I loved District 9 and have high hopes for this one. Very seldom do we get smart science fiction movies (Blade Runner, The Matrix). I very much like the international aspect of the film. Leave it to a non-American director to get it right: I read an article stating we'll hear a bit of several languages in the film, which makes sense. "Earth" is a derelict junkyard, not "the United States" alone. Naturally the main language is English but then you add: Diego Luna = Spanish Sharlto Copley = Afrikaans Jodie Foster = French (she studied the language for years, beginning as a child) Alice Braga = Portuguese Wagner Moura = Portuguese In fact, I think the participation of the last two (Brazilian) actors might even get me to drag my wife along to see it.
I like it too, but don't forget a big reason is the international market $$$. If most of the money was still in American box office, you can bet the film would be less likely to feature such international flair.
Neill Blomkamp as director ensures an interest in an international cast. He also produced, so I'm sure he thought, Well, the studio might want to balk at the actors I hire NOT named Matt Damon, but there's the international $$ we'll make; which we'll need, due to the R rating. I hope Wagner Moura has more than a few lines. He's great in whatever he does: "Tropa de Elite" and its sequel; "Carandiru"; etc.

I saw IMAX. Way better than Oblivion in my opinion. Oblivion was ok but too many story holes and felt cheesier. This movie is much smarter. It reminds so much of a video game movie at times. My friend kept thinking Halo with the weapons and shields. The director knows how to use angles well. The 3rd person shoulder shots and lighting were great. Well told story. Best sci-fi movie that I have seen in a while.....which not much great has been out.... It is pretty much what you expect from the trailers. Good action. Surprisingly violent at times which was good. Matt Damon actually does a good job making you feel bad for him. Krueger is a badass and a very angry person. Weapons are badass too. The suit he has is crazy. Jodie Foster kind of annoyed me with her rich person accent. If you liked District 9 then I think you will like this.
I really liked it. A little heavy handed on the political story telling, but Blomkamp knows how to create a universe. Like District 9 it got very violent at times, but the weapons and shields are awesome. World's better than Oblivion in my opinion. Loved that lots of scenes were shot in daylight.
Best blockbuster of the summer. This is what a $100 million dollar tent pole should look like. Take note Snyder and Del Toro, seamless CGI in the daytime. Great story though a bit moralizing in parts. The Spanish sequnces were not directed as well as the english but that's just me nitpicking. I believe Foster went with a South African accent in this one, maybe why some people are annoyed with it.
Just got back from an IMAX showing and really enjoyed the action and weapons in it. After watching pacific rim this movie was way better story wise.
