I really like Pekovic, really underrated player in this league. Having said that, you don't trade to go sideways, you trade to advance or recede.
What I have in mind is this: 1 Trade Asik and Young, get back Thaddeus Young; Asik winds up in Portland, a Blazers first round pick, Jones, and Robin Lopez's expiring contract end up in Philly. 2 Trade Lin to Milwaukee for John Henson. Henson is a nice young (and cheap!) player with a great attitude/character and replaces Asik as the team's backup C. 3 Trade Greg Smith for a projected high second round pick. This clears a roster spot for B.J. Young. The Asik trade clears a spot for Robert Covington. 4 Roll with Patrick Beverly as your starting PG for a while. He's fine. 5 If/when Steve Nash and Kyle Lowry become available in early February, trade one of your many expendable assets (Isaiah Canaan? 2014 first round pick?) for one of them. Upgrade at PG and also at backup PG (Beverly > Brooks). Starting lineup PG Steve Nash/Kyle Lowry SG James Harden SF Chandler Parsons PF Thaddeus Young C Dwight Howard Rotation players Patrick Beverly Francisco Garcia John Henson Donatas Motiejunas That team can win the damn championship and Rockets fans will quickly get over Asik and Lin!
So we gave Omer Asik and Tjones for Thaddeus Young? We gave up the most valuable assets and end up with the worst player in the trade (Asik>Pek>Young).
Pekovic is my favorite non rocket player in the NBA. And I have been wondering why it is taking so long for the wolves and Pekovic to get to a contract. But this doesn't make sense, Pekovic is a great offensive player, but only if he is under the rim. he doesn't have an outside game at all. He is just a bad of a match with Howard as Asik is. Furthermore he is less capable of guarding PF than Asik. So overall I do not believe this rumor. Maybe in a three way trade (but not for Young), since I can understand Minesota wanting Asik next to Love.
I am not sold on this rumor either. I personally think Morey is waiting to see how this club plays together. If the holes are as big as we thought, I trust he will make the moves to improve this roster.
Pekovic wants 15M a year, that's why Minny and him can't get into an agreement. This is also why the trade won't happen, there are a lot people here complaining about paying Asik 8M a year, how much more if we pay Peks 15M? lol
Similar player?! Pekovic is an offensive player (16/17 pts) and slightly lesser rebounder 9 rbs while Asik is a defensive player who was featured in the offense
He said similar caliber player. Of course they are different like night and day. But they are of a similar level. They are both great role players. Like i said Pekovic is my favourite non rocket, and I rate him a bit above Asik, but a great defensive player is more valuable, since there are more offensive weapons in the NBA than defensive weapons. Pekovic is an offensive Beast, and below average on defence Asik is an defensive beast, and a below average on offense.
if money doesn't really matter, i' ll choose Pek coz he can give us a different look at the C position..
There's a name that this Pirates fan thought he would never ever hear again! But, yeah, count me in with those that are confused and don't buy into this rumor. Only makes sense as part of a three-way.
if thier salary is the same, I would take Pek as he can fill the pf and C position, but since Asik's salary is way way lower, I say no way...
