You make a valid point. I think everyone is just scared that this trend will continue, which is a legit concern. We know Lance is football centric, and Clanton isn't exactly a sports guru. The worst thing about Lance are the guys with pseudonyms that call into his shows. Now that he is leading a show again, these guys are coming out of the woodwork. They are basically the equivalent of message board trolls and I tune out every single time. As far as I'm concerned, Nick Wright is the best morning radio guy in Houston now. Too bad Lopez basically makes that show almost unbearable.
If you compared Matt & Adam's final week on air to Lance and Adam's first week on air I'd be interested to see what the difference in basketball talk was. I bet it's negligible and I wouldn't be surprised if LZ and AC talk more basketball in comparison during that time.
Lance talks plenty of rockets and I would say that Clanton is a rockets first guy. It's early August, what is there to talk about right now for the rockets?
Like I said, Donkey makes a valid point. It's not high tide for the Rockets right now, for sure. Except the schedule release. However, Lance is not a Rocket and definitely not an NBA guy. Clanton is a little moreso tuned into the NBA. But I don't think either one of those guys holds a candle to Wex/MJ in terms of basketball knowledge, let alone interest. I hope Clanton makes a concerted effort to study the NBA as a whole and make that his wheelhouse opposite from Lance. That would be a good balance.
Exactly. I mean this morning they went over the Rockets schedule a few times and discussed the amount of prime time games. Considering the time of year, no one should be surprised that football is the topic of discussion, with Manziel leading those discussions.
I wouldnt worry too much because it is the Rockets flagship so when that time comes around, I think there will be plenty of rockets discussion
I've listened to lance a lot over the years, he definitely talks rockets just not as much as football. As for wex and mj, I never found them all that knowledgable. They rarely gave interesting or new takes IMO. They were fine and I listened to them, but I found them to be among he least knowledgable guys on 790 and they were a little out of touch with other stuff. I hated when they would go on "pop culture" rants and really have no clue or perspective on what they were talking about. If one show had to go on 790, it had to be them.
I'm on board with you. They were easy to listen to but never added much useful insight into, well, anything... Matt's interviews were on point, I'll give him that.
First off, horrible move by 790 to get rid of Wex and MattJ. Classless move by Lesbian Craig for badmouthing those 2 on his HMW blog and I used to be a fan of his Sunday Block Party. 610 has become MUCH more listenable now that John Lopez and Nick Wright have basically been booted and now focus on Vandermeer and Texans training camp. I hope Nick and Lopez don't come back. Go back to KC Nick Wrong. MAD radio is OK and much better than In the Trenches. Matt Thomas being moved to 2-4pm is an absolute travesty. He is by the far and away the best sports talk personality in this town and he has a great show. He is getting the shaft and I won't get to listen to "Good afternoon LUNCHTIMERS". A show that has grown on me a lot is 610's Fred and Ted show. Fred has a smooth voice. I thought for sure he was black but shocked to see he is white. Another KC dude but he is OK in my book.
When I first heard Gersson Rosas when he did his interview for 790 I thought he was black but the name booted that thought. But you are right on w/ Matt Thomas getting the 2-4 spot...but I do not see Mohr being in that slot for too long

Does Jay Mohr ever not yell? I can't take more than about 20 seconds of him. Having to listen to radio spots alone from him make me want to turn off 790. Also miss MT at noon. By 2 I generally don't want to listen to the radio anymore.
Wow, just caught some of Jay Mohr. I thought I was listening to Fallon's Morning Zoo spoof on SNL. All I could make out was testimonial ads in between zany noises. For sports radio, it suuuuuuuucked.
First time to post... I am really impressed with your passion for what has happended over the last week at our station. These message boards can boost your ego while at the same time keep it in check too. I've been in frequent contact with Matt and Adam. I know they will land on their feet very soon. As for Sportstalk 790, yes I miss the noon slot. Sometimes our company (I'm sure yours does too) has plans that we may agree or disagree with on occasion. All I ask of you is to make sure to hang out with me as much as you can. Lastly with my show change does come more responsibilty with Rockets coverage. I will be doing at least 50 postgames show after games this season when I don't have conflicts with my play by play duties with the U of H or my Astros duties. This I look forward to a lot. I did 4 games during Craig's absence and traveled with the team during the playoffs. The NBA fire is back in my belly. I hope you'll make it a point to join me after the games to talk up the team.
