Manziel comes from a rich family so he can afford rims for his car. He is just enjoying his celebrity and getting money on the side. He's selfish and doesn't give one fu** about his teammates, coaches, and fans.
Like I speculated before, the only thing that kinda makes sense is if his booze/weed problem is worse than people imagined. Mommy and daddy certainly would have paid for a new set of rims.
Pretty much every school of anyone accused (USC/Lee, South Carolina/Clowney, etc) has come out and cleared their player, but A&M hasn't.
Only because the broker looked at the over/under for season win total and felt taking out TAMU's QB would be his best bet to manipulate the outcome and bank, thus the wait until now to release the info and only go after Manziel.
That theory doesn't hold up too well bc it was 9.5 everywhere I looked, with the juice on the under. The odds aren't going to go much higher...everyone and their mom (including me) was betting the under. That Bama line movement made more sense with the inside info theory...but then again, Manziel still might play...hopefully. I'll gladly pay $$$ to be wrong and have the Aggies finish up as a 10+ win team.
Uh, from what I've read, A&M looked into autograph accusations in the spring and "cleared" Manziel then. Difference is, it's the NCAA now doing the investigating. The fact that the player's school "cleared" them means absolutely nothing.
My take on paying student athletes is simple... If an athlete does bring the university money, they do have the right to get some of that money. But there has to be a catch. The goal for each university is to make sure that they can maximize the amount of years that a student remains on campus. 4-5 years of education is a large sum at most institutions. If a student/athlete has that kind of ability to draw money to the institution, that money should be reserved in an escrow account for that student. That amount should be released at the completion of his education with the school. This gives students incentives to finish the education that they started and the schools can still keep some of its profits. This would really address a lot of these ethical questions about whether it is right or not to pay athletes. Sure other students will be extremely jealous, but that is exactly what it is. If there is an athlete that makes the schools millions of dollars, he is definitely entitled to some of that amount. If the student can finish his education in 4-5 years, he should be eligible for 50% of the total amount that he helped make for the university. If he finishes in 6 years...40%; 7 years...30%; 8 or more...20%.(lots of athletes once they go off for the pros, tries to finish college during the off season) I really think this would give the student incentive to remain in school, get a college education, finish on time(average between 4-5 years).
^^^^ last point, if students choose not to finish their education within a 10 year span or dont finish at all, that money should be given to the student population of the university. This would tremendously help other departments throughout the university. My view...more athletes will stay in school a bit longer and finish school.
Talked to my guy again. Nothing new to report. I don't think he'd know anything more anyways, they've got to be keeping this info close. I did however get a deeeeep dive into the psyche of the Manziel's and how they've all evolved since JM's fame. Interesting stuff.
Two questions: 1. How would you determine how much money a particular athlete makes for a University? For example, what did Manziel make A&M last year? How much did his O-Linemen make (without whom, Manziel would have been crushed)? 2. Does the same apply in the opposite situation? If the university loses money on an athlete - as they do on the vast majority of them - should the athlete have to pay to be on the team? The vast majority of athletic departments lose money and are subsidized by donations or universities. If a public university pays players and increase their losses, who should provide that money? The taxpayer?
If the NCAA is going to suspend one player for doing it, they should suspend all players that did it. Otherwise, the NCAA has not credibility. If Johnny did it, he gets the suspension he deserves. If Clowney did it too, he should face a similar fate.
I went to UT. I'm sure it's not that more (if at all) expensive than A%M. It cost a fortune. A full scholarship is worth a ton of money. Why does no one give a **** about that when it comes to college athletes?
agreed. I wish my college education had been free. That's real money! ...and, it's not like anybody is forcing these kids to go play football. They can quit anytime they want.
Not only that but college football serves as their only place to display their skills for the NFL. Where are they going to go after highschool? NFLEurope, the Arena league? the future stars benefit a great deal from the institution. johnny also needs more dedicated members to his entourange. Uncle nate is no eric murphy.
He has the same number of signed items up for auction as Maziel by the same broker. The inference being made is that this broker was paying several players to make a profit off their signatures.
