That would freak me out regardless of the neighborhood, and I live in a very safe area of Austin. About as "safe" as they get, absent being a gated community (not many of those in Austin). I'd get a security system, if it were me. That, and load Betsy.
Maybe they don't have trash pickup where they live. They wanted to ask you if they could leave their trash in front of your house so it would get picked up. Maybe they hate littering that much, unlike yourself.
I think they put the trash out there to see if you would get of your house to move it. To see if you are home.
I got a little weirded out when a guy came by selling home security systems, and then started asking questions about my alarm system. Obviously I didn't tell him anything but I was still extra cautious for the next few days.
Besides stealing it... Signing up for the service, I think the cheapest plan is $99 installation and about $30 a month.
That's happened to me before! It did freak me out. It's amazing what people think they can get away with with just a blue polo and a clipboard. Never buy any security items from someone trying to sell you. You should be the one to initiate the contact for the service.
I've thought about getting one of those barking dog sensors but I don't know if they are worth a hoot
Katy area. Majority Hispanic and white neighborhood. The neighborhood isn't bad, never heard gunshots, nobody in my section of the neighborhood has had their car broken into or house robbed. Definitely suspicious.
Poor choice of words, my bad. Hopefully it turns out to be nothing. I'll call the local PD to file a suspicious persons report, hopefully its just my paranoia and these kids are just walking around the neighborhood and littering rather than scouting houses for possible burglary.
We had a similar situation where they broke into our garage (detached) and stole a few things but marked our fence by putting a towel over it, when we got home later that night we locked it down and removed the towel and called the police, they explained that some folks marked empty houses that way. DD
You could be man. One afternoon I was home and just got out of the shower when I heard the doorbell ring. It was some white trash dude who looked like he was selling something. I typically answer the door and turn them away because a) I want them to see that a guy lives there and b) show off my big malamute that looks like a wolf. If by some chance they were thinking about robbing the place, they'd think twice due to me and the dog. Well, I was in my towel and didnt answer. I came home that night from work around 6am and found my almost brand new bench was gone from my porch. I imagine he was walking around looking for crap to steal from the houses later that night. Wish I would have answered the door that one time, might still have that bench. BTW I live in Timbergrove, which is a subdivision just west of the Heights.
