Let's say Minnesota is ~10 games below .500 at the deadline and Detroit is a middle-of-the-pack 5-9 seed in the East with all of the floor spacing issues that everyone predicts them to have. One team proposes a trade of Greg Monroe (promising young big and an excellent facilitator from the elbows), Villanueva's expiring contract, and an unprotected 2014 1st rounder (keep in mind, in this scenario Detroit doesn't look like a team expected to get a high pick) in exchange for Kevin Love, who might solve the Pistons' issues with spreading the floor while doing all of the other Kevin Love things that make him so good. Would/should either team accept? Further, what should the Wolves consider a reasonable offer for Love?
If K Love wants out of Minny, I don't see it as a terrible trade. But if K Love doesnt have a feud with management...I dont see why the Wolves would do this
why would Minnesota be 10 games below .500? They are a playoff bound team and won't be that low. Also Monroe blows.
Not sure there needs to be one. Clutch made the Random Rockets Trade Ideas thread because people have a ton of those and starting a thread for each would overwhelm GARM. No such issue here.
Tough question. If Love clearly intends to leave, in terms of assets, that's very solid return. It's arguably more than what teams got for Melo and Dwight. In terms of fit, meh. And I definitely can see Dumars take a gamble and go all in. So I guess, both do it. But there are unknowns. In your scenario Minnesota is like 20-30. Why? Is it because all the roster around Love got injured? Is it because Love is injured? In the latter case, Love doesn't have much reason to complain, so I don't know that it would be a "must sell" situation for the Wolves.
Well Minny's defense is gonna be completely garbage this year. Rubio is their only really good defender...
Unless Josh Smith or Andre Drummond get injured, I'm convinced Greg Monroe is the odd man out in Detroit and will be traded by the deadline. With Smith + his salary and Drummond already on the roster, the fit for Kevin Love is questionable. On Minny's side, I think they expect to get more for Love and other teams will line up with better offers.
would take Monroe easily. Asik is potentially a rental and not a good fit. Monroe will be restricted and has a chance to become a good fit on offense.
To which team? RA does not, by all accounts, want to trade with Houston (without it being an overwhelmingly Minnie deal). Monroe is good. And due an extension next summer. Minnie willing to pay Monroe Love $$$s? I'd guess not. No way. No chance. No deal.
Detroit cannot trade their 1st rounder because it's already going to Charlotte, and there's no way Minny will be 10 games below .500 by the All-Star break.
Why would Minny trade the guy who isn't the problem? All they would do is put themselves in a bad position. Love is only 24, prime is still a year or two away, so they have time to keep building around him. This isn't the same situation as Portland and LMA because LMA is already well into his prime and the clock is ticking. Portland doesn't have another year or two to build around him. They, unlike Minny, do have to cash in now.
Why would Minny trade a PF to bring back a guy who can only really play C, when they have a guy who is more than capable of playing C. Unfortunately it seems like you put too much time into your random scenario, and not enough thought...
The trade makes no sense Not to mention, neither scenario will happen. If healthy, minny is too talented with that roster and Detroit sucks
