Holy crap, I have to rep JCDenton. How did I end up in an episode of The Twilight Zone. Epic thread just got more epic.

You realize his experience is 21.39 times more important than yours, right? I mean, he's seen one coach come and not go.

I go one step further: every thread should be based on a JCDenton graph.

Also, guess I was wrong. Thread hasn't been moved.

Perhaps another section titled JUST FOR FUN where members can post whatever they want. To save space, threads are only saved 2 pages deep before falling off and being deleted.

Or, people who don't like the current setup can start their own Rockets website and make any rules they want.

I agree that there have been some useless threads lately, but the
condescending attitude of some who act like only they understand true fandom has gotten really old.

So your beef is with my perceived attitude and not any of the points I made? And you want to move this thread off to a corner where only serious clutch fans read it? What would be the point of that when the GARM at times is over run by newbies with no knowledge or understanding starting threads just to hear themselves talk. There actually was a recently posted thread by a user with 1 post. Yep. He used his first CF post to start a thread. And honestly it was not the worst newbie thread I have seen this month.

an OP of a good thread shouldn't have to post in 29% of the thread about making good threads in order to defend himself about the thread.

Just let the mods do their job, Orr become a mod.. The "I'm better than you" posts (not calling out anyone in particular) are every bit as annoying as the inane posts by newbies. Some people here seem to think that Rockets knowledge is a direct correlation to how long one has been a member of this site.

Over time, I’ve seen a number of great ideas floated to make GARM more readable, to return it to a more sane place, where people spent more of their energy offering thoughtful perspective and intelligent analysis.

I’d like to add a thought, which builds on some of these ideas.

Rather than isolating groups of people who are deemed to be problematic, let’s focus our energy on exploring solutions which encourage the best of what CF has to offer.

GARM is where the vast majority of CF interaction happens, and this is where newbies are eventually converted into long term contributors. So, this is the place to demonstrate what good posting behavior looks like.

My thought is this… what if we started to designate certain threads in GARM as “analysis” threads”? They would be identified by a prefix, say, [ANALYSIS].

GARM could be renamed GAARM, with the extra A standing for Analysis.

Only posts which constructively add to the discussion are allowed.

The mechanism to accomplish this could come from any number of options.
    a) “Analysis” threads could require a moderator to manually approve posts before they appear. This could be once a day (or once a week). The benefit to this approach would be that it gives posters significant time to consider and refine their thoughts and analyses.
    b) Maybe make “analysis” threads only open to a select group of posters who have a demonstrated history of quality contributions. My own posting history would disqualify me, until such a time as I’ve made some real contributions and was nominated by a member of the “analysis” group, or maybe I could make a contribution to the Tip Jar and ask for consideration.
    c) Assemble a new team of moderators whose only objective to keep the “analysis” threads clear of anything that isn’t a positive contribution.
    d) Other ideas?

Please know that if you criticize this idea or call me a name, I promise not to take it personally or fire off a knee-jerk reaction. Scouts’ Honor!

That would ruin the GARM, redearth. It's been working great for 14+ years, so no need to make great changes. Great debates happen because there is no set of training wheels put on writers on this site. Humans make up the moderators and we police each other when things go too far. It's a fantastic place and it's worth accepting.

Monster, honestly, if someone has been coming here for 8 years or so and has been reading this site regularly, yes, they are very knowledgable. This is the best basketball forum in the world and if you've been reading it all this time, you've read more thoughts on basketball than 99% of basketball fans. It only takes a few years for fans to get the rhythm. I guarantee that all these Lin fans will start to understand the vibe of this place and become a very tolerable and interesting contingent of contributors. They'll either do that or leave. They always do.

I rarely start threads. Why? Because with very little effort, I can find a thread discussing just what I'm interested in at that moment, and post my thoughts there. Somehow, I've survived posting this way. I'll add something else, which should be obvious, but is generally ignored, particularly by those new to the GARM, which is read the BBS for a good long while before posting anything, to get a feel for how things are done here, what's expected, and then start posting. And a good while after doing that, start a thread about an idea or opinion you don't see being discussed (always check page 2!), and see how it flies. If a new member posts a topic that grabs me, I could care less that he's only been a member of ClutchFans for weeks, instead of years, like many of us here. Oh, and contribute to the site. The benefits are well worth it, and you should, anyway.

Heck, if people would simply do that, things would improve here, and it would be a better experience for everyone, in my humble opinion.

I can't decide if the extreme irony of the OP makes the whole thing worthwhile for unintentional comedy, or if the whole thread is a piece of crap. How it's not 1-star either way, I don't get.

I used it to post what I always post about doing things here, when the topic comes up. Like I said, I rarely start threads. ;-)-

Yup, I've read that post of yours almost verbatim 4 or 5 times. It's like deja vu all over again.

Don't you think a moderator should be posting something like this? If its truly a problem in Mod's eyes, they would post a warning thread, not a member circa 2011... Of course, I'm a 2012er, so what do I know???
