I Thats a short sighted view of "tmac & yao are better" Shaud already touched on it. That tmac & yao were always injured and at most played only half their available games together. The 22 game win streak is a great example. Half of those games were without yao who went out for season with injury. Tmac put the team on his back the rest of the way. And he himself was hurt, the physical wear cost him having any more quality career. The next year its all Yao Ming. Tmac on the shelf. Yao played big minutes every game. The wear costs him rest of his career, retires shortly after The point is Dwight and Harden play games. Dwights an iron man. Just them havin more dursble minutes together is at least as good for team as better-but-brittle tmac yao. Plus rockets now have better supporting cast than chuck hayes and rafer alston. If grizzlies had chandler parsons theyd be a top 3 seed.
Ellis can be erratic, but he can be unselfish at times and a very good team player. It would've given the Grizzlies a 4th go to weapon with Gasol, Randolph, and Conley, while Ellis probably be a more dangerous player in Memphis playing with two low post weapons and another guard who can create for himself. http://fansided.com/2013/06/17/monta-ellis-says-hed-like-to-play-for-memphis-grizzlies/ Though, Memphis is sort of in a cap lock, this year.
I like Chandler, but he is more of what Grizzlies already have good defensive specialists and guys who can shoot 3s. They need someone who can create offense of the wing and keep teams, honest. I think Chandler is a very good versatile role player to have, but he isn't going to push a team over the hump as much as people on here think.
Oooh they can make it past the first round every once and awhile and can beat a team that's without it's all NBA PG...yeah, the Grizz have proved a ton.
Very true that experience counts for something in the nba. The past 5 title winners have veteran core players. Its just inevitable that it reaches a point of diminishing returns. Older teams, if you dont have complimentary pieces to replenish and a foundation in place, it can easily result in being mediocre. And "year older" experience is a good thing for young upstart teams to gel and upset them
the grizzlies were 1 triple overtime game from getting to the west finals 2 out of 3 years. they also turned a 1-3 series into a 7 game thrillfest after choking away a massive lead in game 1. And in game 7 of that series conley was hurt or the grizzlies might have pulled that game out. the facts are the grizzlies have beaten the top 3 teams in the west. Oh and by the way, blake got hurt because he couldn't hack the physicality of the grizzlies. It wasn't no accident that he got hurt or a fluke injury. It came because the grizzlies exerted their will on him and he folded. in the thunder series 2 years ago the grizzlies were without rudy gay and they still took the thunder to 7 games. we didn't cry about it.
I dont think parsons is all that. Hes good relative to his draft slot and low pay. Better than budinger but doesnt mean skys the limit I admittedly used high end best case Its going off of parsons having a good postseason while tayshaun was kinda shaky. Memphis is oppposite pace of houston so parsons numbers wouldnt transfer. But if parsons numbers were to transfer itd give them a decent chance Still a point was to show rockets have good supporting players. While parsons isnt a great creator hes no shane battier there either
unfortunately, after seeing the Spurs shut down the "best front line in the league" I am leaning towards the "physicality" will get torn apart by two of the best defensive centers in the league.
Exactly and plus pointing out that duo as to why this duo won't work is stupid. If you're going to point out the T-mac/Yao duo it would be nice of "what" to at least realize why it didn't workout.
Having Tayshaun Prince and Tony Allen on the floor offensively is basically like playing 3 on 5 basketball which basically hurt Randolph against the Spurs. I never bought into Memphis as being Championship contenders during the regular season.
On the T-Mac/Yao comparison. All you need to know about Morey is that he built a team with a past-prime Yao and non T-Mac into a team that pushed the eventual champions to 7 games. While a fully healthy Memphis team managed to get swept by the eventual finals losers. So yeah, I do remember Yao and T-Mac. If they had the role players Morey found while both were healthy, the Rockets would've at least made it to a conference finals if not championship.
Isn't Monta just a guard version of Gay, who they already had and traded away and didn't miss? The Grizz would be ridiculously scary if they had James Harden. Of course he's not available or anyone like him (Steph Curry also would make them crazy good), but the Grizzz need an efficient offensive go to scorer, not a chucker, in that system which values possessions.
People put too much focus on being efficient. Russell Westbrook isn't the most efficient guy in the world but OKC clearly missed him.
He's more efficient than Ellis, and grabs more boards and has more assists per 36. But I'd rather have Harden than either of them. You can overcome inefficiencies.. Which is why guys like Ellis have value and AI and Westbrook can play at great great levels. But that inefficiency will always haunt them.
I agree but Memphis didn't have a shot at Harden. Don't really pay attention to salary caps so I'm going to guess they didn't have money to go after Monta either.
Quick recap: Your bold prediction is that the Rockets won't even make the playoffs this year. With not even 1 percent chance at a 4th seed. How much money do you want to put on that? It is easy to make ridiculous claims without any accountability. Let's make a bet. I will give you 50:1 odds that the Rockets make the playoffs. And as stated in the OP, 1:1 odds that they advance further than your Grizzlies. Based on your talk in this thread and the other one, it should be a no brainer for you.
Why would you cry about it? Wasn't it pointed out by numerous people (it appears you being the only one opposing it) that an absent Rudy Gay allowed Memphis to be in that position
