    Our system has a glut of pitching prospects and probably 7 guys who should be up by 2015/2016. What's our future rotation look like out of these guys?

    Mike Folty
    Lance McCullers
    Vincent Velasquez
    Jarred Cosart
    Jordan Lyles (I still believe in him)
    Josh Hader

    Kyle Smith

    I don't know why you bothered putting Tanner Bushue in.

    Yes, he's having a good season.... one level lower than where he was last year. A level below where he's spent the past 2.25 years.

    Yeah, plus whatever we get in the draft next season. We should be top 3 in the draft at the very least I think. Hopefully the top pick.

    I see McCullers being a Craig Kimbrel type closer if starting doesn't work out.

    It seems McCullers has constantly been talked about as not working out as a starter since the second he was drafted. Has there really been any good reason for this? Seems like the chic thing to say for no great reason. Don't know why he, of all people, has been written off as a likely starter so quickly. The kid is 19. I'd imagine closing is the last resort as far as the Astros' plans go with him.

    Not criticizing you for saying it, just curious why I keep hearing it. I have pretty high hopes for his TOR potential for us.

    Scouts don't think he'll stay healthy as a starter with his mechanics.

    My guess is that we are lucky to get 2-3 good starters out of that group.

    He's still young and projectable. If he can get back on track to where he was/should be, maybe he has a future. I'm not willing to write him off just yet.

    Also probably has to do with the quality of his secondary and tertiary pitches.

    In not too concerned either way. The best two Astros closers ever both were brought up through the minors as starters (Wagner, Lidge). On a good team, a lights out closer is more valuable than an average starter.

    Realistically you are correct. AA and AAA will weed out half of them. MLB will get the rest, leaving 3 of the 15 still standing. Maybe three who do not make it as starters will find a home in the bullpen.
