The case is pending in court. It's not advisable for the accused to apologize to the so called victim of this case, without thinking about the consequences.

    Not now, at least.

Once apologizing for his action, Jones inadvertently admits his guilt, which can be used against him in criminal court AND in civil court. He will be totally at the mercy of the court.

Homeless or not, he will have many ambulance chasers at his disposal. If he decides to file a civil law sue and drags the case well into the season, Jone will have no choice but to take the time off and attend his court dates in Portland. It will become a major distraction which might cost more than what the final verdict will be.

If he does not apologize now and court finds in his favorite or even drops the case, Jones can then apologize and go his merry way, and homeless man has little base for any future law sue.

IDK for sure but he was awfully close to that night club.
I am not sure you can sleep near public places.
I guess Portland is more liberal. Cops use violence a lot on the homeless and hardly anyone complains.

And the other side has already deemed the homeless man a scam artist and the witness a fraud. Pick your poison.

so do you think people here should lean towards believing some random sex offender who slept near a night club/bar or the player we picked from the draft?

I think the fictitious ass-biter homeless killer character McNulty invented in the wire was based on Terrence Jones. :)

How about neither? I don't understand this need to take sides and give opinions about things of which we have minimal information.

I know we do it all the time about basketball, which is why we come to this site. But do we have to do it about pending criminal cases too?

    Sure, no prob.
You missed the part when posters go all ape shiet and do condemning Terrence for this rather minor mishap.

I am ok talking basketball here and would still like to give him a fair chance to start at PF or as a 6th man.

I've read the posts demanding Jones to be shipped out immediately for his "shameful" and "immoral" behavior, and I find those ridiculous as well, for the same lack of information.

But I really get disturbed by those who take this opportunity to post their best hobo jokes, or try to rationalize Jones' behavior by saying it was probably not a "stomp" but a light "step" while trying to ask the guy to move out of the way. Or the "we all know cops make the worst witnesses" argument and the "this bum's out to get a big payday" line.

Both sides bother me, but I must say those attacking the homeless person bother me more. And I would say there are many more of them, as well.

If you want to know the truth.... more than not the truth lies between the arguments of those two parties.

Neither side is a saint. Terrence made a mistake and the homeless Mr. is out for some money after he learned that Terrence might be a bonafide NBA player.

You may think it's a minor distinction, but the reason many people (including myself) dispute the "stomp" point is because the police themselves backtracked on it. The word is nowhere to be found in the actual charging document, despite them using it three times in the initial press release that set all this off (including the headline). That seems like a witness who, upon having time to reflect, doesn't feel secure enough in that angle to testify to it in court.

If the word stomp were never used, do you really think the public reaction would be as bad as it's been? I don't. Thus, now that they're recanting, I don't think it's "disturbing" or rationalization to point that out. It's just being fair.

Good point. Had the cop said, "Mr. Jones yelled at the sleeping homeless person and nudged him with his foot" then we'd have had an entirely different conversation here.

This sounds like a typical case of extortion...I figure that this will find its way in civil court for an unspecified amount...

Like you've never wanted to kick a homeless person, this board is so judgemental.

I think the word "Stomp" is what is throwing everyone off. He could have just kicked or nudged his leg a little while he was drunk and yelling Wake up! which to a drunk person would be hilarious.
