I don't know what happened to Nas (maybe he got rich and forgot about rapping about the hard times), but we know what happened to Snoop I think rappers today are more about doing multiple things besides rap, and you can thank tupac and will smith for showing the way what's up with Drake? why do people like that guy? he sounds exactly a lil wayne copy cat
I actually liked Drake before he ever hooked up with Wayne. His first mix tapes were really good then well yea, Wayne happened. One of my favorite Jay Z songs has to be Renegade and its just amazing how Em just came in and totally owned the track on Jay's own album. No one had ever done that before.
Supa Ugly was a track he made to get under Nas' skin & expose the Carmen Bryan affair. The true reply to Nas was the song Blueprint 2. "And y'all buy the ****, caught up in the hype Cause the ***** wear a kufi, it don't mean that he bright Cause you don't understand him, it don't mean that he nice It just means you don't understand all the bull**** that he write Is it "Oochie Wally Wally" or is it "One Mic"? Is it "Black Girl Lost" or shorty owe you for ice? I've been real all my life, they confuse it with conceit" "And the little homey Jungle is a garden to me" One of the best Hip Hop rivalries ever. It made Hip Hop better, no one lost their lives & they ended collaborating to form some of the best Hip Hop songs in the last decade. Jay was not on no come up back then. I'm pretty sure I can say Jay do not take over the game like he did if Pac and Biggie lived. Men lie wonen lie numbers don't.
never heard anyone make this claim ever... a punch line rapper?? really?? big l, cassidy, ortiz, these are punchline rappers..
Dam....this thread is filled with nostalgia for the 90s for me. I love hip hop back then, not so much now though with all the garbage out there, and me not feeling a want to seek out the good stuffs. This whole thing had me going on youtube looking for old interviews and stuff relating 2Pac/Biggie. There are some pretty interesting stories and such from ppl in Pac&Biggie circles, but i just want to share these two interview of Snoop. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/lOFDS3UClbc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/SEtPrDPi-SE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
In regards to Mr. Marshall, here is his response... Ha! <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/_1xXYeNrW9k" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
So many funny comments in this thread. Don't get why some folks feel like every rapper should rap about is the struggle. There is more to rap than just rapping about hard times.

Damn, there's a lot of stupid **** said in this thread.... Jay is a punch line rapper? lol I agree. But I think there's a common consensus on the top 5, in no order: Jay, Biggi, Pac, Nas, Eminem. That's not my top 5... But that is the general list I tend to see.
Definitely. But still nowadays people got Kanye and Drake on their top 5. I know Kanye has been great but I don't think he is on the same level as those 5. I don't see how drake can be in the top 5. His mixtape was good but he hasn't done much to warrant to be argued as the best rapper or even in the top 5. You can also argue for other rappers and its all in what you like.. I see rap getting better with these young prospects in the game. Joey badass and chance the rapper are headed to stardom.
Kanye would have been great if he had been allowed to keep his style and trajectory coming out of his first album "College Dropout." Remember on his second album "Late Registration" on the song "Gone," he said "Certain powers that be won't let me get my ideas out." He had to change his style if he wanted to move forward and he has. And the Jay-Z/Prodigy beef is so interesting. Prodigy is so real, I can't even explain it.
