Has anyone had success canceling directv without being charged the early termination fee? My contract is up in December, but I'm in the process of moving out of our house. I'll be homeless for 5-6 months starting next week. I was going to explain this to DirecTV, but I've heard and read many horror stories with their cancellation/movers process. I've frozen the account; however, we could possibly be homeless for longer than 6 months. If anyone works at DirecTV or knows someone that could help, that would be even more awesome. I've been with DirecTV for about 3 years. Thanks in advance
Just explain it to them that way. If you can't pay for cable, they will understand, but you WILL have to fulfill your end of the contract at one point or another. I think there's a frozen time limit. Just call and explain. I'm sure a HUMAN BEING works for them. Why did you sign up for cable for a long time if you didn't have money? I guess I'm wondering why you'll be homeless. What happened? Don't tell me you paid A LOT for that doorbell...! I kid, I kid...
You're homeless or living with someone else? I hope everything is OK. I'm trying to get out of a contract as well; the only way I see them letting you out of it is if you move and your new residence can't get a signal. I did what you did and suspended service for 6 months. However, your cancellation fee will be $20/mo, so it's 'only' $80. Not chump change, but relatively low.
Ha! I fixed that doorbell. It was the transformer (que Transformers posts). We bought a new home, and it's being built from the ground up. There are already delays in the completion date. When I say "homeless," I mean we'll be living with relatives and in-laws over the span of the construction of our new home, which is 5-6 months currently. I'm going to call them after work and explain my situation to them. It seems hot or miss though. It's usually a 2 year intro rate, then they sold us another year with free premium and sports channels. Hopefully they waive the fee since we're so close to the end of the contract.
Living with someone else. Sorry, it sounds gloomy now that I read it over again. Everything's great so far in life. First baby on the way, and new home under construction. I appreciate the concern. If the cancellation fee was $20/mo, I could handle that a lot better than $300+
They'll let you freeze your account for longer than that. You just need to call them towards the end of the term, and they will extend it for you as long as you explain the situation. I had to do this a few years ago.
Retention/Loyalty Dept. Get them and explain the situation. They will bend over backwards to help you out.
My 2 year contract is up this month and one of the 24 month rebates just expired and now my bill is $111 per month with one dvr and just a regular hd box in the bedroom. This is with no premium channels. I am thinking of calling and telling them I am interested in dish and their hopper box. The only reason I wanted directv was the sunday ticket. Which is exclusive to Directv if I am correct. Maybe if I call I can get them to lower this ridiculous bill give me that genie box and comp me a season of Sunday ticket or I hit the road.
Direct TV blows. My roommate and I signed up in March and asked for specials. There were none. A week later free NFL Sunday Ticket. Since we installed before the offer and were under contract, we were SOL. I'd take Comcast any day. Comcast doesn't go out when it rains and since you're not under contract, when you threaten to cancel they give you stuff. Direct TV just laughs.
Since we're moving to a new address, could my wife sign up for directv at our new home and get the new-customer deals?
