Not really... since Schaub is the one making the reads and having to make the throws on the necessary, sometimes complex timing routes. Its the same game plan mentality installed for Peyton Manning and Brady... two other QB's who aren't going to win games with their feet. This offense is anything but "dumbed" down. Schaub isn't just being asked to hand it off and execute dump-offs/screens. On any given play, the receiver is going to run a certain route depending on where the defense is lining up and where the help is coming from... part of the reason why we don't do much audiblizing at the line is that most of our plays have 2-3 different options for each receiver.
Never the less, that is the only thing Schaub's talent will allow him to be. He needs to be the best game manager in the NFL because short of either a legendary year from our Running game, special teamers or defensive unit that is all one can hope for when it comes to Schaub. He isn't going to turn into Joe Flacco with the long distance bombs nor is he going to have the Brady, Brees, Manning or Rogers type of games. But more then Schaub, this is pretty much on Kubiak and Phillips to step his coaching up because if we see more games like we saw with the Packers and the Patriots out on the field that is a sure enough sign regime change is necessary WHILE we have the all pro talent.
even in the years he was knocked out with late hits, he was still headed for 4000 yards and 20+tds how many game managers do that and have leading receivers and TEs in the probowl. smh at the logic of some posters. Will he get it done in the post season. that is the biggest question. But let me remind you, go check the stats the year peyton won a superbowl. Our D has to step up. I think this D has what it takes to turn it up in the playoffs. Dammit, schaub threads, it must be football season! So i'm happy to see the thread. I even repp'd ya.
Hit open receivers, don't throw into coverage. Run or throw it away if everyone's covered. Basic stuff. I don't think recognizing the defense is very applicable as to why he throws into coverage anymore. He should be well past that 99% of the time. He knows full well he doesn't have the kind of arm strength to get away with that very often. If you want to place Schaub with most NFL QB's then that's fine and I agree. It's frustrating we've invested so much in this guy financially when last year alone Kaepernick and Wilson, 2nd and 3rd round picks played as they did.
I don't see this reckless portrayal of a gunslinger when I watch Schaub play... yes, towards the end of the season the entire offense was significantly ineffective, nobody was executing like they should.. including Schaub. But it wasn't as if Schaub randomly decided to start trying to throw into triple coverage instead of hitting the open man. Hell, I hear complaints from the "experts" here everytime Schaub would throw it away (just like you're asking), wondering why he didn't try to "make a play!". Schaub's been in the league long enough to know what he can do, what he can't do, and what he shouldn't do. Maybe he wouldn't make it on other teams and other systems where they'd ask him to run around the pocket and make plays... but he can certainly run this offense damn well (provided the team executes as constructed). Its no mystery that when he plays well, we win... when he doesn't play well, we lose.... and as of just last season, without him, we were dead in the water. And if it doesn't work out, so be it.... apparently there are football QB Jesus' throughout the mid to late rounds of NFL drafts (but I'd also give those guys more than just one year to see what happens when NFL defenses catch up to them).
LMFAAAOOOO WUT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? http://www.nfl.com/probowl/story/0ap1000000117432/article/2013-pro-bowl-rosters-afc-nfc how can an offensive line that had 3 pro bowlers last year not be considered elite????? How many other teams had 3 pro bowlers on their offensive line? See you people i quoted are the type of schaub slurpers that always find every excuse in the book to defend schaub's piss poor play. WE had a very good offensive line thus the 3 pro bowlers named. The o linemen is not solely responsible for making a great o line. The QUARTERBACK ALSO BEARS THAT RESPONSIBILITY by making quick decisions, being cagey in the pocket and keeping your composure when the oline breaks down. Sadly, all traits that matt slob is devoid of. do us a favor and die you worthless maggot. you need to learn how to read.
Sorry didn't read to the bottom  No offense but it was hard to get there. A lot of things didn't go right last season. Shaky right side of the line, average running game, no second RB, OD being average at best, Cush getting hurt, Barwin playing like a scrub, Joseph's hamstring, no nickel back. In other words, you need a team to really be fortunate with health and develop great chemistry. The Texans need to be clicking when it counts most. That'll take a cumulative effort.
http://www.nfl.com/probowl/story/0ap...osters-afc-nfc that's a pro bowl left tackle a pro bowl center a pro bowl guard a pro bowl running back a pro bowl wide reciever a pro bowl tight end That's 6 pro bowlers on offense 7 if you include matt slob, 3 on the offensive line alone.
so matt has no excuses because he has those 6 pro bowlers... how about those 6 guys have no excuses because they had a pro bowler qb
Hey, Matt Schaub was a pro bowler last year too. Is that all we're using to judge how good a team is? I don't care how many pro bowlers they had... the line didn't play as well as they had in the past.... indicated mostly by the running game being very mediocre. If the running game is medicore, it eliminates a lot of what this offense can do. Neither the line nor the QB/WR personnel are designed to be a team that throws the ball 30-40 times/game... but by the end of the season, that's exactly what they were being forced to do.
one thing we can all agree on, it's superbowl or bust. =) I Ain't scared of anybody!!!***** ***** just the hoody and brady's midget receivers.
So, 3 OL make the pro bowl (even though anyone who watched the games knows they didn't play that well compared to previous seasons) = ELITE! QB makes Pro Bowl (for 2nd time) = AWFUL!!!!! That's some sound logic right there.
This. We are admittedly a run-heavy team. Last year, our running game was not what it has been. It hurt us. The other thing that hurt us was Schaub's struggle late in the season. We should have had homefield, but we didn't. Homefield might have led us to play an easier team that we could have handled in the playoffs, but we simply weren't good enough to win it all, unless we lucked into it. This year we're better, in my opinion, but we've got to be more consistent. Winning it all in the NFL takes a combination of luck, skill, and having things fall in your favor. I think people undervalue this. Let's face it - the Cushing injury was huge for us last year. I think that was the biggest detriment to this team all of last year, and by a long shot. Schaub is an easy scapegoat, and sometimes, yes, he struggles. It's hard to get a top 3 quarterback in the NFL (and takes the same combination as winning the Super Bowl) these days. Even then, those guys make some mistakes and have bad games. It's hard to place sole responsibility on a guy that was making his first playoff appearances last year, when there are 21 other people playing the game on his team.
