I can not even imagine how someone would intentionally stomp on a homeless man sleeping on the street. I tend to believe that Terrance just tripped over him.

It does make more sense, but T Jones' name is ruined as things stand.

And I'm sure you will change your stance if reality is different from what the first story was, right?

Or Jones was probably annoyed by the homeless person and stomped on him. Or maybe he was attacked by the the homeless person and he had to stomped him.

I don't know what really happened. But from the reports that have come out so far, it smells alcohol.

Which is pretty benevolent in a weird, twisted way if you ask me.

TJones always seemed like a nice guy, and I don't believe that what he did is as bad as the media is making it out to be. I'm still rooting for the dude.

One bit of detail in the original report that hasn't been discussed much here (as far as I can notice):

The events in question happened right after the police officer noticed that a group of bar patrons spilled onto the streets and told them through a loudspeaker to get back onto the sidewalk.

So, it's safe to say that Jones knew that the police was around and watching his group when he made contact with and spoke to (or yelled at) the sleeping man. It would seem that if Jones was going out of his way to pick on the homeless guy (either out of spite or because he thought bullying homeless people was fun), right there and then, when he knew that the police was watching, would have been a monumentally stupid time to do it and guaranteed that he would get caught.

I didn't see what happened, but just because Jones confronted the guy didn't mean that he did so because he didn't see homeless people as human beings. It could well be that Jones was frustrated that the sleeping man was obstructing the sidewalk when a group of people just got told by the police to walk on the sidewalk and not on the street. Perhaps the group spilled onto the street in the first place because there were guys sleeping on the sidewalk (or in the doorway with a part of their bodies on the sidewalk)?

I've never picked on homeless people whether I am drunk or sober, but I've been on crowded NYC streets when I got frustrated with the throngs of traffic obstructing tourists and felt like pushing them out of my way. Never violently shoved any of them, but I don't think I was too polite to them. I didn't hate tourists, they were just in my way.

Anyhow, it's one thing if Jones was bullying the guy (even if without intent to cause great physical harm) out of spite for homeless people, it's quite another if he got mad at a guy for blocking traffic.

The attorney for Houston Rockets forward Terrence Jones issued a statement on behalf of his client stating that he believes the charge of misdemeanor harassment against Jones to be "resolved favorably."

Attorney Kevin O'Connell, of Portland, Oregon, went on to describe Jones as a "gentleman with not a mean bone in his body."

Jones was arrested on Wednesday shortly after 2 a.m. in Portland after he was allegedly seen stomping on the leg of a homeless man, according to a police spokesman.

According to the Associated Press, Sgt. Pete Simpson said a police sergeant saw Jones lift his foot and stomp on the man's leg after yelling "Wake Up!"

Jones was arrested and later released on his own recognizance and then pleaded not guilty at his arraignment.

The following is the complete text of O'Connell's statement:

"Terrence Jones was charged with a misdemeanor of harassment, alleged to have occurred in Portland, Oregon in the early morning of July 31, 2013. He is charged with intentionally harassing Daniel Kellerher by subjecting Mr. Kellerher to offensive physical contact. Neither the information from the District Attorney, which is the charging document, nor the Oregon Revised Statutes use the inflammatory term "stomp." Mr. Kellerher apparently was sleeping in a doorway next to a police precinct and was, in part, extended onto the sidewalk. The arresting officer did not determine whether Mr. Kellerher needed any medical attention. In fact, Mr. Kellerher received no medical attention and apparently needed none.

"Terrence Jones denies the charge and, in fact, appeared in Multnomah County Circuit Court on July 31, 2013 where he entered a plea of not guilty. We believe that the case will be resolved favorably. We look forward to the next court appearance, scheduled for September 6, 2013.

"Terrence Jones is a gentleman with not a mean bone in his body. He was raised by his mother and grandmother, two very strong and competent women, who taught him to treat people, no matter who they are, with respect and kindness. While acknowledging that Terrence may not have been looking where he was walking, with a crowd that had spilled out into the street and were being herded by the police back onto the sidewalk, Terrence tripped over Mr. Kellerher. He did yell at him to "wake up" and may have nudged him. He certainly would not, and did not, intend to cause Mr. Kellerher any harm. He is confident that those who know him understand that the charge and accusation that Terrence intentionally committed a crime cannot be true. It is inconsistent with his character. Terrence is thankful for all who continue to support him and understand the great sadness he is suffering as the result of this incident."

Jones has not been available for comment.

Yeah, then you see the interview with the homeless guy who genuinely seems upset by it. T Jones should be convicted
