He was 1 3PM short of being a 50% shooter in the corners on 1.5 3PA in corners per game. I don't have a problem with him at PF if it doesn't create a huge defensive issue. Rockets have 4 PGs on roster right now. If all 4 make the team, expect some three guard lineups with Parsons at the 4. Harden as the other "SF" in a three guard lineup is a better perimeter player than Parsons. Dwight, Parsons, Harden, Beverley, and Lin is a very potent lineup offensively against teams that can't punish Parsons at PF/Harden at SF.
Parsons is either our 1st or 2nd best perimeter defender (Beverley being the other player in that running), so putting him at the 4, where he is often undersized, takes one of your best defenders on the court and makes him into a sub-par one. Defense matters just as much as offense.
That is completely un-true. Parsons consistently was put on the best perimeter offensive player all year, that can't be said for any of the other players you mentioned. And there is a reason the coaching staff makes that decision. Whatever, I mean, it is just your opinion versus mine, but I am pretty sure the coaching staff (based on the above fact) and other informed basketball minds would agree with me.
when we play range 4s that like to dribble drive, and dirk, yes. I can see it. but for the majority of teams with traditional mid-low range PFs it wont work on the defensive end.
That must have been someone else that bumped knees with Westbrook. No way the Rockets put a sub-Parsons defender on Westbrook. Also, that wasn't Garcia putting some defense on Durant. Based on your logic and the assumption that Durant and Westbrook are two of the best offensive players in the entire NBA, what you said is either untrue or illogical. I'll let you decide which one you want to claim.
Yeah I guess that wasn't Parsons guarding Kobe, and Durant early in the year, and Lebron, and Carmelo, and pretty much the best wing player every single night of last year......C'mon man, you're better than this.
I don't think Parsons is ready for extended minutes at the 4. The Rockets signed Dwight Howard this offseason. The Rockets still have Omer Asik. There are very few teams with two traditional PFs that are good enough to play 48 minutes so that Parsons can't slide and get some minutes at the 4 while he has backup.
McHale could not care less about opinions on CF. You would not either if you had quality NBA coaches on your staff and Morey on retainer.
Garcia wasn't around earlier in the year. Parsons did such a great job early in the year against Durant, I guess Garcia was put on Durant in the playoffs (when the stakes are higher) because McHale didn't think Durant was an offensive threat. Parsons has never been brought in to guard a top flight PG like Beverley to my knowledge. Parsons has the ability to be a good defender. He did not have the stamina last season to play uptempo offense and play good defense. Garcia, Beverley, and Lin all seemed to play defense at least as good as Parsons did at the faster pace. Granted, I would never want Lin or Beverley on Kobe, Durant, Lebron, or Melo. I also would never want to put Parsons on Parker, Westbrook, Paul, or Curry.
Well, I think you can do at least a little math...Parsons can't guard both Durant and Westbrook, right? Garcia did a good job on Durant, but that was a surprise that had not been going on before the playoffs or even early on in the OKC series. Parsons guarded Paul, Durant, Kobe...no matter what position, he guarded players outside of his position on a nightly basis because he was considered the best perimeter defender on the team.
I love how people keep saying Beverley is a better defender then Lin despite stats showing otherwise and that we all saw how Beverley got torched 4 games in a row by Reggie Jackson. Also the stupidity of playing Parsons at the 4 when we still got D-Mo and T.Jones is just asinine.
