But you're missing the point. You're saying that these guys would be the Shane Battiers of the WNBA because of their defense, but their defensive advantage would be coming for their physical tools, not their understanding of the game.

Yes, physically there are guys who could match up with professional female players 1-on-1 and be able to do their job well. But would they have a feel for team defensive schemes (and be able to provide enough on offense) to warrant a roster spot? I'm dubious. There's more to defense than being more talented physically than the person you're guarding, and that becomes exponentially more true the higher level you go.

More than the OP realizes. Posting on clutchfans doesn't automatically make you a fat slob.

They don't even have to be fat slobs. Are you saying there's semi-pro level players on here? Surely everyone would know who they are by now, right? Or even anyone who's sniffed D1 ball?

My point is that YMCA weekend warriors on Clutchfans could not play in the WNBA. That is all.

I havent honestly watched the league in 10 years but I've heard a lot of second hand stuff. I did see Griner play in person in high school. I was scared lol. A 30 year old former D2 player friend of a friend used to play pickup at a D1 college and they would scrimmage the women's team there. He said it was pretty competitive. They had to play hard to win. He said once you get past the fact that they're women it got pretty physical. He was about 6'3", 215.

I think a good men's college player with decent size (6''5") would dominate the WNBA. These 25 year old guys who played in high school and they play on weekends now, unless they're 6'5" and athletic they're going to have a tough time. Just my opinion. Even if the WNBA might not be entertaining to some these women have played ball their whole lives, they're professionals. The below rim game just doesn't translate to an NBA audience so any guy thinks he can dominate. It's silly.

Right. Everyone on CF is not a neard. Bottom line if you got height and pretty decent strength and know the game of basketball I think you could play in the WNBA. Now would you be a star?

This is pretty much exactly what I think. Your explanation was much more eloquent.

    verse

In both football and bball intramurals, I guarded Rice track stars who are faster than the female sprint team at UH, and they couldn't lose me in either sport, because they didn't know the game and the angles.

    verse

Right...we agree...guys are flat out better defenders, by a far margin. So why are you saying we are dumber defenders than women? Them are fighting words. ;)

So, let's talk intramurals at a D1 school.

I didn't play D1 or had any freaking chance in hell, because I'm 6'0 and played PF in HS...lols. But I did sniff D1 basketball, literally. Ricky Pierce was in my dorm (college). I was shooting around at Autry and he walked out and asked if I wanted to play a game of 1 on 1. That was an interesting game. But I did get to smell his sweat. So, I got of sniff of D1 ball.

But really, I probably played against 10 guys who (because of their height to their position) couldn't play D1. But they damn sure could against women. And I could defend them, just not score against them, except for turnarounds and 3s, if they ever gave me the ball on offense.

you can go to almost any court in the US and run into atleast 1 guy there that plays above the rim from anywhere to 5-10 to 6-4.. how in the world would any wnba player be able to d up someone that could play above the rim, he would control the boards.. im talking a street guy just playing pickup style basketball vs a wnba team with a gameplan.. the wnba players would have to hit their shots, because they wont be able to get anything around the rim, britney griner isnt backing down a dude 5 inches shorter but 30 lbs heavier..

this idea that NO man that cant sniff d1 college ball has ZERO chance to make a wnba roster is bullshiit..

pffft. For one year, I totally held the record at tracking Rice females. And that was before the internet.

God how is this even a debate. To me, watching WNBA is like watching a bunch of dudes at LA Fitness play basketball. You'll get the occasional dunk from someone but that's about it. I play basketball religiously, and I would tear it up in the WNBA. Let's not put these gals on a pedestal - they are the same as us (if you ball) except they can't dunk.

These are disguised "NBA doesn't play bball the right way" threads.

The OP means....Guys are athletic but stupid. Women and foreign men aren't athletic but are more skilled with higher BBall IQ, so much so that women pros dominate all men who aren't much taller and more athletic.

    That's the story here.

Can you imagine posting something like this on a German Soccer website. Can any of you German men play for the German National Women's Soccer team.

    pfft!

With all due respect, we're not talking soccer here. While women ballers can possess the same skillset as men, they are innately slower and weaker. It doesn't take a high IQ if you know how to pass beyond scoring regardless if you're a foreign man or not. Chalk me in as a definite WNBA starter.

yeah and you can see 1000s of former nba 1round players who can jump out of the gym and was out of the league in 3 yrs while Zach Randolph, the red rocket and others with below the rim games dominate and make good livings playing with fundamentals.

athletic ability don't mean jack. shooting ability is far more important, boxing out is far more important.

IMO, NAIA level is prob the cutoff. One of my old college roomates played NAIA ball and he would tell me about a pickup game that he played in at a camp at PV. Cynthia Cooper was on the other team, and he was convinced that she could dominate at any level of play outside of the the NBA.

And this guy was practice squad level at our D1 school, but transfered so that he could make it to the court.
