Let's say you're the only male allowed to play in the WNBA...

I think you are only considering offense. Women can definitely score, dribble and pass. But they can't play defense like men.

There are 100s of HS power forward who are 6'1 - 6'3 who can't play college because they are too short. But against women, several of them could be the Shawn Battier of a WNBA team. Men are flat out stronger, which would translate into many 6'1 - 6'3 male defenders who can shoot threes and probably guard every position on the court.

excellent point. I think certain people are more focused on the skill side of the argument, rather than the sheer body mass difference between men and women.

a woman taking a charge from a man would be a completely different story than a woman taking a charge from another woman, or a man from a man.

someone could get killed that way.

I guess this makes sense, as long as they continue to pursue basketball and stay in great shape. However, OP states 'Using your current basketball skill level.'

So going back to dharocks post, I don't think anyone on this board is currently good enough to play for a D1 (or very good D2) basketball program or the WNBA.

Do we even have any former D1 or D2 players amongst us?

another thing, when you talk about comparing wnba players vs low level athletes, its always the BEST wnba players vs some no name joes.. theres no way as a collective unit everyone in the wnba is better than every scrub who frequents the internet.. my buddy is about 5-10, extremely fit, fast, strong, and possesses a 37" vertical.. theres no way you will convince me he would take a back seat to these chicks..

I kind of doubt it. I'm not doubting that physically a lot of guys could compete, but I think its necessary to point out how large the gap is between women's college ball and the pros. There are only 12 WNBA teams and just to be eligible to be drafted a player needs to complete 4 years of college.
Because it's a game dominated more by precision than physical ability, there's a minimum level of skill and fundamentals required that I think a lot of amateur players simply don't meet.

I think in the example you provided, those players would probably be less like Shane Battier and more like a young Gerald Green; more physically gifted that most of their peers, but lacking feel for timing and basic understanding of the game required to be an impact player.

Quickness, speed, and lateral movement aren't based on mass. 6 foot point guards take charges from 6'8" forwards in the NBA. It's a charge not a blind side football tackle.

The people that usually talk crap about being better than female pros usually have never played against a decent college player. It's like the clowns who trash talked white mamba and then actually played him.

Just curious, how many of you are faster than the female sprint team at UH?

Non-scholarship men would completely change the game. I mean...defense would.

Say hello to 23 yr old, 6'1, 180 lb male defenders who can shoot threes and pass...1000s of them out there. They'd be all-stars in the WNBA. Good luck trying to take the ball to the hole.

Can you post his picture? Then we can compare how ugly he is compared to these women and decide who's the better player.

Are you saying women have a quickness and speed advantage on men?

No they don't. They can acquire a skill set better than men in this game of basketball, such that they are superior offensive players.

But they have no chance in hell being better defenders.

    Nope.

A lot of them are just as good as most pro male players with shooting and there's some pretty handy ball handlers. I think any athletic guy over 6'5 would dominate if they had any half decent level of game, it's the physicality the women would struggle with. When I was 15 our junior rep side played a semi professional womens team and it was a lot harder than I thought it would be. We won but not by much and that was a team of the best local boys for that age group.

Some women do on a billion men, yes. Can you beat LoLo Jones in a foot race? I guess you're not a real man then. :)

I could say the same thing about the NBA pre-Chuck Daly.

And then defense changed the game. Defense wins. And it would dominate the WNBA, too And a 6'1 man in the WNBA would be DPOY....every year.

Battier's such a bad example though; he's not a good defender because of his physical advantages, he's a good defender because of his extremely advanced understanding and feel for the game, his ability to know where his guy is going and beat him to that spot. Everyone he's ever played for or with has said something to the effect of him being in the top 5% of his peers (the best basketball players in the world) in terms of basketball IQ.

Guys who grasp the game like that are usually able to play high level basketball past high school.

She can only beat me exactly because "I'm a real man," so I want to see her ass during the race. :p

Yeah, your right. AGAINST NBA MEN, Battier does not have physical advantages.

So, you are going to deflate men's obvious physical advantages against women because Battier is not gifted against NBA players...just for the sake of an argument.

Not if they are 6'1 power forwards in HS they can't. Unless they get to play against women, or suddenly learn how to be a PG or Wing player.

6'1 guys with Battier's physical abilities would have huge physical advantages against women. And there are 1000s of them out there.

CometsWin, I was hoping you would jump in here.

What level of talent would a man have to have to be a WNBA starter? D1? D2? NAIA?
