So the player with better numbers at AAA than Hoes, Grossman, Martinez, and Barnes combined needs more time at AAA.

When Springer comes up, he better be downright Ruthian off the bat, and not need any adjustment time, for all this extra time he's spending in AAA... of course, we know how unlikely that is to happen, thus causing me to scratch my head even more at Luhnow's logic.

If Luhnow had drafted George, this wouldn't even be a discussion... hell, he may have been here at opening day!

Any chance they know they will draw well when they come home for the Sox so they will wait to bring Springer up to help draw for a lesser series? Am I just grasping for a reason he isn't here?

Might be because of service time considerations.

He doesn't do anything great and he's not a centerfielder. He's a solid player and he can probably start on some teams like ours. Ideally he's a fourth outfielder. What's his projection? .280, .350, .370, .720 OPS 10 steals something like that for a right fielder? Maxwell territory but a lot younger.

I believe we're past the deadline to where Springer's time this year would count towards anything... in fact, that deadline was in June.

I personally think its a winning games consideration (a desire to put no doubt in getting the #1 pick).

There is very little chance we don't get the first pick at this point, springer or not

Maxwell never posted a batting average or OBP anywhere close to what Hoes has thus far.

OBP is certainly translatable from the minors to the majors.

I mean next year. If they can delay his call up until mid-April next year, then they'll control him for an additional year before free agency vs calling him up now or on opening day.

Then I can't explain it. Hell, Springer seemed to be more challenged against AA pitching than he is against AAA pitching... why not move him back down there!

You've been whining all week about trading Bud freaking Norris. Ghhhh...

Luhnow should always evaluate a player's market value. It's his job. If Hoes turns into Markakis then great. If you think the Orioles wouldn't ever trade Markakis and dont know his value on the market then you're being naive.

Ever considered that he's interested in seeing what fringier prospects are capable of?

I'm interested to see if Hoes/Krauss/Grossman can be part of our future or if we need to relegate them as bench players moving forward.

Sure... and if they never call him up, they'll never have to pay him a big league salary ever.

If I were Springer's agent, I'd be furious if the above scenario happens... its Berkman all over again, except Lance was on a division winning playoff team with decent players in front of him.

At this point, George deserves to be an everyday MLB player, and he's past the age that most all-stars and HOFers make their debut.

It's hard to maintain high walk rates without corresponding power. Pitchers have nothing to fear, and can usually hit their spots in the majors. Obviously if hoes can maintain his current AAA slash line in the majors, then he's a value player, power or not. I'd be skeptical of that, but it doesn't matter what I think, he'll get an extended chance to prove it on the field.

That's one silver lining about having a terrible team, you can throw spaghetti against the wall and see what sticks.

So we use the majors to assess the abilities of our future bench players, and the minors to hone the abilities of first round picks/future all-stars.

    Total bizzaro world, man!

Actually I haven't been whining at all, would love to see proof of what you are talking about. I've been saying if we do not get a legit return we should keep him. If Hoes was the big piece I would not have been happy. That doesn't mean Hoes can't be a good player.

Some people could win the lottery and then b**** about paying the taxes, I can't help people with that negative of an outlook on life

Maxwell had a lot more power though. He hit 18 homers last year. .764 OPS last year. Hoes ever going to top that? He's a different player than Maxwell but I doubt he ever tops .764 OPS. If he does then it goes from a great trade to a freaking awesome trade.
