I said you act like every single song 2pac put out was real deep songs. I didn't say that he had no deep songs considering I'd rather listen to 2pac over Jay.

That still doesn't change the fact that Jay had plenty of real deep songs himself like "Regrets".

    Tupac>>>>Jay Z

Pac just knew how to put all his emotions into his songs which a lot of people can relate.

jays whole schtick was life through the eyes of a successful drug dealer. he had things you dont have and could never own. a braggadocio guy, with a talkative, effortless flow. jay has always been about duality in majority of what he says, witty wordplay, the way he crafted his words is incredible. many times his metaphors have 2-3 meanings and they make sense from every interpretation..

pac was all about the struggle, he wanted to teach and better his people. then at the same time he was about thug life and promoting violence against his "enemies." there was nothing complex about the way pac rapped, its was simple and to the point, he was charamatic so he could draw a crowd and people wanted to hear what he was saying..

im still a beliver that pacs whole image was fabricated.. this guys went to performance/vicual arts college, and was a back up dancer for this guy

jay does have a few deeper songs, but this isnt what he was about so it was rare.

^^ I don't think his image was fabricated. He was as real as you can get.

You don't know how someone could change bc of their circumstances.

I tend to agree, but a lot of guys image in rap, music, and entertainment as a whole is fabricated.

Rap died when the corporations took it over and in a somewhat related way when they promoted NWA heavily over groups like Public Enemy.

It's inspired an entire generation to aspire to a life of ignorance ever since, myself included for many years.

That's only the tip of the iceberg on how deep that song is.

Rep'd, that's my favorite 'Pac song.

A lot of people feel that they need to say it was Pac because Pac was a badass. A great poet, great storyteller, questionable flow but he was reckless. Pac would've never built the empire Jay-Z did.

Thread title presumes WHO WAS BETTER. Not who was a better lyricist, better thug, better poet.

Jay-Z went from selling crack rocks in 97 to being worth half a billion in 07'. 13 albums platinum. I consider Reasonable Doubt (EVERY song on this album is a CLASSIC) a top 3 Hip Hop album ever. Blueprint & The Black Album probably top 15.

Eazy-E better than Jay-Z is a joke, Missy Elliot is an even greater joke. Eazy-E was a pioneer for gangster rap, but how can you qualify someone that had Dre write his songs for him?

Say what you want about Hov but he never came close to releasing a self pitied abomination like relapse, as great as Recovery was... that trash will always be in his name.

People take shots at Hov cause of Ether but even though Nas ultimately won that "beef", Takeover was just as good as Ether. The guy did his homework. Called nas out on the Allen Iverson scandal, so many subliminal shots in that song but ofcourse people prefer the "oooooOOoo he said you have monkey lips".

Jay's resume is just flawless, el cesar es lo de el cesar. Give gredit where credit is due. Pac's resume cannot touch Hov's... now if he would of been alive that would of been an a better debate but I just can't see how anyone would consider Pac better overall...

"What the hell have you done,
To even have an opinion on what I been doing,
What the hell have y'all won,
Only thing you can identify with is losing,
    10 number 1 albums in a row,
    Who better than me?
Only the Beatles nobody ahead of me,
I crush Elvis in his blue suede shoes,
Made the rolling stones seem sweet as coolaid 2,
    96, 97, 98, 99, 2000, 2001 and beyond,
    02, 03, 04, 05, 06 and 7, 08, 09
Back to back double plat, I did what you want,
Men lie women lie, numbers don't,
Ain't nothing changed for me except the year it is"

    That was in 09'. "Reminder"

tinman what's the point of making a thread with a poll if you're going to be subtly bias all the time? Do you get satisfaction with people agreeing with you?

Regrets, Lost Ones, D'evils, Can I live, Anything, Soon You'll Understand, Song Cry, Can't Knock The Hustle, Politics as Usuals... I could go on & on. Jay-Z's one of the deepest rappers ever pre his first retirement.

Honestly has anything since the black album been any special? MCHG is lyrically boring.

    *** The Jay Z

*** The Kanye West ..... since dude brought him up in this poll.

    *** The Illiminati too.

Tupac propelled himself as one of the best artists, prior to his death. His music will live on for generations to come, as is evident by frequent comparisons to current performers. Tupac is in a league of great rap artists, along the ranks of The Beastie Boys.

Oh yeah, *** The Titos Vodka for inebriating me, hence the reason for this post.

    Signed,

I think thats part of the problem tin. You've only been exposed to the club joints.

Download any of the albums that Shaud suggested on the last page and run thru at least one of them. I guarantee your perception of Jay will change.

Its not all 40s blunts money and b****es the way you think. Trust me.

Lmao at the Pac would get beyonce too, but I think he really would. Pac is the GOAT and a prime Hov is top five, but this Jay-z we have now not so much. I feel like I have never seen a rapper be great then turn almost trash well maybe I am too hard on him but his new album the few tracks I have heard are garbage. His flow is not the same its like he has decline as a rapper.
