Smith, 20 (21 on Sept. 10), is currently in High Class A. In 19 starts, he's 5-4 with an ERA of 2.85.

Haha this was rape. Smith has legitimate mid rotation potential.

John Manuel (@johnmanuelba): Kudos to the @Astros for getting RHP Kyle Smith for Justin Maxwell; Smith isn't a big guy but has plus curve, feel for pitching. nice get

Their system must be chock-full of pitchers.

No 20 year old pitcher in the Astros system looks this good, and pitchers with good curveballs nearly always make it to the big leagues.

Maxwell was claimed off the scrap heap, spends a bunch of time on the DL, and Luhnow flips him for a solid prospect? What in the wide, wide world of Astros is going on around here?

Smith was rated as a B Prospect by John Sickels. As a comparison, our B prospects were Cosart, Mcucllers, Deshields, Folty, Tropeano

Is it just me, but aren't there TONS of pitchers in the big leagues with that exact description?

yes, because guys like the one who tweeted that have no idea what "great feel" really means. and they look at pitches and velocities as only sign of quality.

I would have been almost OK with just cutting him for no return. The fact that we got something at all, much less something that may be helpful is huge I think.
