Hader in the teens, Smith and Hoes in the 20s.

My guess is Hader in the teens, and Hoes and Smith just miss top 20. Isn't necessarily a negative on Hoes and especially Smith, but if they come in better than Thurman, Peacock, Stassi and guys like that, then we did really well

He's owed less than $500K, he is unlikely to make it through waivers to a team that wants to trade for him.

You really think a team that is not in contention would put a claim on him? Doesn't seem that even at that salary a non contender would be interested?

you just said on the last page that "people were actually expecting two top 10 organizational prospects for him". that was because you thought that we only got one from the orioles, before you learned otherwise seconds later. (but you already knew that.)

you're an idiot. keep grasping at straws. yikes!

Hader is between Woj & Tropeano. Hoes is a rich man's J.B. Shuck.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. The one thing I do like about Hoes is he seems to have a good approach (from the numbers, i've obviously never seen him play). He has twice as many hits as he does strikeouts and a pretty even k to bb rate. Those aren't things that make a star obviously, but we could certainly use that type of guy in our lineup moving forward. I know that the real prize is gonna be had in 2016 and forward, but i'd really like to see us be more competitive beginning next year

I love the pick and the lefty. Hoes was more about outfield depth or if you need a clutch hit type of guy. Is the pick after Round 1 ? Also 2014 mlb draft is so loaded that LAW has say it is better than 2011 draft.

yes one of the top 10 prospects was ranked by his team as a 4th OF. Whats your point? Mostly everyone at crawfordboxes thinks it was disappointing as well

if he's with us through the year, i wonder if we'd consider re-upping with him next year if the price was right. doesn't hurt to have a veteran in the rotation, doesn't hurt to have a capable lefty in the rotation, and maybe he can continue to re-build his resume and bring back something next year at the deadline.

pretty surprised that we weren't able to flip him, considering the rumored interest. i'd think they would have taken pretty much anything they could get.

They have McLouth, Markakis and Adam freaking Jones as starting OFers. No surprise a kid with 5 AB is 4th behind those guys in a year where Baltimore is competing for a division title.

Jim Bowden: Grading the GMs at the deadline

    Jeff Luhnow, Houston Astros

    Grade: B

Jeff Luhnow continues to build the Astros the right way by trading veteran players for young players with upside. Danry Vasquez, the outifeld prospect they got from Detroit for Jose Veras, is a perfect example of this: He may never play in the majors, but he's got a shot to make an impact if he does. Left-hander Josh Hader and outfielder L.J. Hoes, who they got for Bud Norris, also show promise. Hader, who has arm strength and projectability, is just 19 years old and may be the best prospect they got at the deadline.

First of all it's CrawFISHboxes. And it's mainly a few people disappointed, but guess what. Orioles fan over at Camdenchat are disappointed as well! I guess that means it was either a good trade for us, or a lose-lose trade!
