You try to make off as deep yet you come off sounding r****ded. People spend money spontaneously all the time, nothing new you added.

Oh great, another quivering LOF is offended because the wind blew the wrong way. When you HAVE to give someone a gift because of a government sanctioned event, it makes it pointless and detracts from actual sentiment. Have you felt sentiment before? What you see is a preprogrammed reaction that lacks empathy and has expectations based on marketed messages. If it's indoctrinated into your thought process that you have to cut back on x to make up on y, it becomes less about the relationship and more about keeping up with the Jones.

    And a vicious cycle begins.

The middle class, 80-160k, feel more pressure than those with real financial flexibility. Most of the wealthy elite in san Diego don't do gifts at parties, and its similar in upper class Parisian circles. Hollywood is completely autonomous. Designated gift giving is outdated excluding parent to kid on bdays.

Its a fairly corporate, middle class mentality to have something to look forward to in an otherwise dry existence.

Err, I was implying that's who advertising firms target leading up to the holidays. Quite a few will spend beyond their means because of the 'build up' factor or some fetishized idea of winning over the approval of society or their dream girl. And that girl, who's only been exposed to the status quo, but constantly reads and watches films about dashing quixotes like myself, will slowly but surely begin to feel she has to settle and her self esteem will begin to trickle away. Sexyness, but an item of the past.
