Take into account that we are still 13 months prior to launch for the SEC Network. A network carrying three football games a week in the premier football conference will secure more carriage agreements prior to launch. LHN being specific to one school, probably not so much.
If they had something else to bundle with, it would be an easier sell to the grandmothers of the world. When FX was taken off DTV and Dish Network, people just wanted that channel back. They didn't give a damn that it also included a renewal for FSSW. CSN does not have that luxury. The spotlight is on what is being charged for a sports channel. Add to that the fact that FSSW was already there and was not a brand new additional $3.50, and you have something that will irritate people who don't care about sports.
Certainly, but that's my point -- it's about where the spotlight is. It's not a substantive issue of the grandmothers of the world being taken advantage of -- at least not any moreso than any other RSN. The providers are just choosing to highlight this particular battle. From a strategic standpoint, you're right -- CSN would've been better served to have a bundling partner. From a moral standpoint, though, they're not demanding anything new or different than what other RSNs already do. That's all I was pointing out.
Ok, maybe I am naive. But dang, if Les Alexander signed off on a deal that gave the Astros control of the Rockets television rights, then he certainly isn't very bright. I don't believe that is the case
Now that gives me some hope for those of us in the Beaumont area who have no legal way of seeing games.
They agreed to be partners and probably both partners must be on board for a deal to be completed. Crane has a larger share but Les might also have veto power if he were the hardliner. In my long past days as a door-to-door salesman, I learned early on that making "one-legged" sales calls was a waste of time. Whenever I convinced one spouse while the other was away, the other would always (and I mean 100% of the time) veto the sale after returning home.
Ok, so, was in Sam's Club yesterday doing some shopping, and you know how DirecTV has those reps in there trying to sign people up.. Well this kid rep for DTV says 'Hey man you should hear all about our packages and technology.' Now, I have UVerse, and I know all about the stupid stalemate and everything, so I stopped and asked him, 'You guys got the Rockets?' 'Yep, sure do!' 'You do?' 'Yep, as soon as the season starts. Can't watch the Astros right now, but yeah we are gonna have the Rockets.' 'Since when?' 'Well we got the memo last week.' 'Really.' 'Got that in writing?' That's when he stopped, and couldn't say anything else. So I told him, 'Listen kid, get that in writing and then I will look.' and just walked away shaking my head. Damn this ongoing BULLSHIITE among these companies is really starting to PISS ME OFF!
If CBS gets taken off Time Warner in NYC, then isn't there still free digital CBS OTA broadcast that anyone can get with a digital antenna? Not sure what the silver lining is in Houston in regards to CSN.
So I switched to Comcast today. The Quad-play was $100 cheaper than my other services combined. But, the remote for the new X1 does not have modes for other devices so I can't control the volume on my AVR. I have to use one remote for channel and another for the sound....sigh... What is this 1999? Doesn't everyone use a surround sound amp? How could they have made a remote so deficient? I guess I can go buy a a $150 Harmony 1 and program it, but I'm not 100% sure it works with the X1. Also they don't have any way to hide all the Spanish, Religious and Shopping channels like the "hide Channels" option on Uverse or the Favorites Guide selection on Direct TV. The Closed Cation selection is better then Uverse but not as easy as Direct TV. not thrilled, but I knew I wouldn't be. Com'on basketball, make this worth it.
Why are people switching when we're still a few months away from the season starting? Hopefully a deal can get done between now and then.
Do you have to get the full package of services to get the X1. I've read that the remote is a lot more simpler, streamlined than past models so I guess that's why. Make sure you get the xfinity app...great for dvr-ing a show when you remember about it when you're not at home.
So we switched over to DirectTV today since our contract was up with AT&T and there was no way in hell we were gonna switch over to comcrap. DirectTV gave us the best deal. I asked the guy on the phone about the Rockets and he said they're gonna be available to watch for 12.99 a month. Take it for what it's worth I guess.
I switched from Dish to Xfinity myself, I cannot wait anymore nor can't take watching Astros online, no matter how bad they are doing...Comcast are not so bad after all, they actually gave me a very good deal when i signed up, then recently i asked for any special promo goin on and just like that they gave me another one for 6 mos---all of these without having to be tied up or commitment of 2 years--at least my kids don't have to complain not having Disney in SD anymore...sure their customer service wasn't the best but so was Dish, before I switch CSR says Dish have CSN Houston..I knew they didn't know what they were doing or explaining cos I told them 3x to make sure and those 3x they failed to mentioned they haven't come to an agreement thus kept saying they have it...plus I don't think D12 signing will even help any actually it might even made it worse cos now Comcast have the aces back on their hand and will probably stick to the $3.40 they were asking for perhaps more. So I'm pretty sure some of the people want to switch as well but couldn't because its not available in their area..but most will probably take another season not watching Rockets play this year rather than switch..I really don't think they'll get a deal done til probably CSN H goes down...and by then we have to wait who wants to carry them and who knows when we can watch them play. Can't wait anymore and tired of waiting so I switched after all Comcast gave me a good deal just like Dish trying to win me back--
I've had Comcast for years, but I'm moving this week and it's not available at my new place. I've read several places online that DirectTV would likely carry CSN if Dwight signed... glad you guys are hearing that info from their reps. Fingers crossed.
So I called Direct TV today to complain about not having CSN.... They basically discounted me 10 bucks a month off and also threw in NFL Sunday Pack for free! I guess that worked out!!! LOL
