Man, this is getting interesting. So from some of the most reputable sources, we have heard the Orioles, Pirates and D-Backs are chasing after Bud. Any other suitors confirmed?

Haha that's what I'm hoping for. Luddy plays them off each other.

Knowing that Luhnow hasn't backed down from demands, this is a good sign. As we get closer to the deadline we'll start to see some desperation.

Glasnow isn't without his question marks. Don't think it would be Bud for just Glasnow. I'd take it, but I think Luhnow is looking for more.

John Sickel's midseason 75? Glasnow ranked behind Folty/McCullers/Cosart
BA's midseason 50? No Glasnow, but did have Folty/McCullers
Mayo's midseason top 100 rankings? No Glasnow, but did have Appel/Folty/McCullers/Cosart
Law's midseason 50? No Glasnow, but did have Appel/Folty
BP's midseason 50? Glasnow at 46 behind Appel.

He's a great prospect, but he'd also only fill in as the 4th best pitcher in our system (though I personally would put him in the same area as Folty/McCullers). I'm not a big fan of Mayo, but he didn't even make his top 100. Even without 2013 draftees, didn't make BA's top 50.

FWIW, Wade fleeced the Phillies and Luhnow has really only fleeced the Blue Jays.

Even with Melancon pitching well right now with the Pirates, I'd call the Melancon/Lowrie deal with the Red Sox a fleecing.

Well to be fair Luhnow hasn't had a lot of talent to trade. But that pence trade.....thank you wade. The lidge trade was pretty good as well

I'd call the Lowrie to OAK trade a fleece.

Peacock, Carter and Stassi are all potential parts of the big league club in the present/future.

He's in the same zip code as McCullers and Folty. Big fastball, mediocre secondary stuff. Like McCullers and Folty, there is a chance that he might have to move to the bullpen. But, if it all comes together, then it's a top-of-the-rotation arm.

Last year I would have agreed with you. Now I am hesitant. If Melancon puts another two or three years together like this one, id say not.

eh, Lowrie has been worth about 2 more wins over the past year and a half. Bullpen help is the most fungible and unpredictable of all the positions. Jose Veras was non-tendered over the winter and turned out to be a pretty good closer. Two year ago's Mark Melancon, is last year's Mark Melancon, is this year's Mark Melancon. Who knows what he'll be next year. And, I didn't love the second Lowrie trade, there is no way Melancon could have brought back what Lowrie did.

Eh. It might become one, but so far Peacock has been hammered in the majors. Carter is an inconsistent pure DH, and who cared about Stassi 2 weeks ago? I make that deal every day, but it wasn't a fleecing for me.

As for the Melancon deal, who knows? I think it was the right trade, but at least Melancon has shown how good he can be, even if Boston gave up on him too soon.

I'd personally trade a great reliever (if he continues to pitch well for the next 2-3 years) for an above-average everyday SS 10 times out of 10.

For a an above-average everyday SS with no injury history, yes.

Melancon had zero value to the Astros unless he stayed with us until 2015. It was absolutely the right move to make.
