He bricks those because he doesn't slow the momentum of the ball.. When you blasting to the goal full speed, you have to stop the forward progress of the ball..otherwise you gonna brick those as Lin and the rest of the bricklayers in the league..
Too much movement in his shot, IMO. He's actually pulling the ball back, as he raises it to shoulder level, and then has to redirect it to push it forward to release. It's not a very obvious change in direction, but it's there. When you do that, you're lofting the ball more than you're directing it. He should go up and forward. And i know there are different successful shooting forms, but all that depends on strength, height, hand size, mental consistency with form, and so on. Some people have the right mix of those to shoot well differently and some don't. I don't think Lin does.
lol Hmmm interesting. Thanks for the insight. I normally just cringe when I see him going in...again. This may be another reason his efficiency sucks.
Interesting. Can you guys explain more? If he missed a 3 pointer, it's going to count as a 3 pointers FG% right? Does that mean he's not consistent 2 pointers, not 3 pointers?
It means when people say his jumper has to be more consistent, they mean his shot, period, not just his 3 point attempts. It also means you can shoot 4-4 today and 0 for 4 two days later and still have a 50% shooting percentage. You can keep that pattern going for a season and finish as a good shooter by %, but you're still inconsistent. Or maybe i should say you're notconstantly making your shot, since, technically, there is consistency in that pattern. Point is, he needs to bring it almost every night.
hmm Apparently there was some misdirection from the OP but sure it was unintentional. They titled the thread, 'Inconsistent Jumpers' but posted Lins FG% Which is all shots including jumpers and layups. Makes no difference as we seem eager here to dissect all facets of his inefficiency.
Back to the momentum..When your running down court and you pull up for the jumper..you obviously have a lot more behind your shot because your running..As Lin goes up for the midrange needs to ease up on snapping his wrist..Your already motioning forward..no need to use a full snap of the wrist..he needs to suggest the direction of the ball rather then shooting with full arm/wrist strength..
According to hoopdata.com, Lin finished 62.4% of his shots at the rim which puts him in the same league as guys like Ty Lawson, Rajon Rondo, Russell Westbrook, and ahead of guys like Kyrie Irving and Stephen Curry. According to stats.nba.com, he finished 57.1% of his shots with 5 ft of the basket, which ties him with Harden last season. So are all these other guys bad finishers too?
hmmm So the times he does miss does he draw the foul at least? Because that should be a gimmee shot and then his efficiency should be higher. Harden usually does and that explains why his efficiency is Superstar area. Maybe Lin should have passed it off to someone who can do it efficiently.
Silly me again. When someone inefficient does miss it stops our momentum and gives the opposing team a fresh scoring opportunity if they get the rebound.
Yea...Ive seen plenty of those airballs... Sometime his jump is weak..his release is inconsistent as well at times.. Some guys evaluate themselves better than others..
hmmm I see. Many thanks for the observations. It gets frustrating to watch for me at times. Hopefully Lin is working on his efficiency. Maybe he will improve enough and we will have that 3rd Superstar.
The airballs probably come from what i said, change in direction of his shot. You can't use as much of the upward momentum of your jump, if youre pulling the ball back at the shoulder. It results in a weaker release.
