And what will you be buying?

    Me:

New Laptop on black friday - preferably $300-400 (original price would be around $600)
New TV - probably around $200 ( a 32 inch LCD tv with 720p is perfectly fine with me)
    PS4 + accessories - $600

So I'm going to be spending at least a grand ($1000) this holiday season, which isn't much compared to what responses I expect to read, or maybe it is, let's see.

So, how much are you spending and what ya buyin?

Family of 4 - myself, the wife and 2 kids.

I save $25 cash from each of my paychecks (get paid twice a month)
I save $50 cash from my wife's paycheck (gets paid once a month)
that equals $100 a month that goes in to an envelope marked "Christmas".

Because the money comes out of every paycheck in small amounts, we don't notice it too much. By Christmas, we have a total of $1200 cash for the tree and gifts for the kids and family and my wife's classroom volunteers (she's a teacher) . Once that money is gone - we don't buy anything else.

I have reduced the number of gifts I give to three people (mom, dad, step mom).

I view holiday gift giving as a complete scam and I have eliminated every gift I could over the last few decades. I do my holiday shopping in about 20 minutes total.

    Dad - $35 bookstore giftcard
Mom - Something different every year ~$150
Step Mom - Dinner gift certificate - $50
    Total - $235

My family is talking about just buying for 1 family member each this year, like a secret Santa type deal. And then just getting the kids something as well. I don't go all out on Christmas, so I'm thinking about 250-500 on gifts and then a PS4 or Xbox One.

i gave up on buying christmas gifts a few years ago. the time and money spent trying to buy the perfect gift for everyone wasn't worth it. people just don't appreciate gifts when they're expected.
