Didn't watch the whole interview cause it got old....

He should have just asked if her if she actually read the book or if she could only quote what others have said. He should have been equally condescending to her. That's what I would have done.

Not sure this thread belongs in D&D since, thus far, it has been pretty gregarious and reasonable e (which, anyone can tell you, is NOT indicative of a D&D thread). But I digress...

Reporter was ether an idiot or a combative ass, who may or may not have read the book. Whatever the case, she had no business conducting that interview. Yes, Aslan came off a bit condescending and smug, but she had it coming for that travesty of an "interview".

The elitist commies at NPR actually read books before they interview authors of those books.

I mean, who has time for that, other than elitist, welfare-consuming, tax-avoiding commies?

The sheer arrogance and ignorance of FOX News anchors is cringe worthy. They don't bring people on to discuss or argue someone's works/ideas, but to twist what they believe their interview did and how they would come to those conclusions due to some inherit fact that their background must simply undermine the authenticity of anything they do.

Nobody. I think if these reporters have to do a show every day or so, you can't really expect them to fully have read all the books they will talk about. They have to read a summary or something sometimes would be my guess.

Funny. Scholar who wrote book about zealot getting grilled by a political zealot with an agenda. Typical modern mass media. No attempt made to actually inform the audience about the content of the book. But I ain't mad at her. The Fox "interviewer" was just doing her job of serving up ideological goodies for their target audience. Look tough on the Muslim.... Make Fox look uber-Christian. Wave the republican culture warrior flag.

It is quite a business model they have there. No investigative reporting skills or ability to read/skim/research the content of a book necessary. Every once in a while the strategy backfires and they book a guest who can hold her/his own against their "interview" tactics. But Fox knows its audience.

Hey now, let's not question the impeccable credentials of Fox News Religious Correspondent, Lauren Green:

    - Winner, 1984 Miss Minnesota beauty pageant
    - Third runner-up, 1985 Miss America pageant.
    - Bachelor of Music in piano performance from the University of
    Minnesota

This is a personal opinion, but I don't feel like you need to be validated by the rest of a religious community to view yourself as a part of said community. No one gets to tell you how to travel your path to your god.

Also, from what I read of his Reddit AMA, his study of religion has led him to believe that ultimately, all religions are paths to the same god. Islam is simply the religion that he identifies with the most and as such, he chooses to view himself as a member of this faith. I don't think he needs to believe something as specific as Jesus's crucifixion to be a Muslim, no more so than a Christian need believe the literal interpretations of the Genesis story or the great flood.

I am reminded of one of my favorite interviews of all time.

TERRY GROSS: Ike, let's talk about Tina Turner's new book.
IKE TURNER: Terry Gross, that book is lies!
TERRY GROSS: Have you read the book.
IKE TURNER: NO! Terry Gross, no. Why would I read a book full of lies?

But seriously, she clearly hadn't even read the book jacket. I just... wow, I wouldn't let myself on air with that little clue. Or I would say, "I have to admit up front I have not read the book." Just own it.

Anyway, news is dead. People love piling on FOX, but I don't see that CNN is much better anymore.

That women didnt read a ****ing word of that book. She looked down on her notes specifically to read quotes critics wrote and continued with the bullet point she started with for 5 minutes. She asked the same question for 5 minutes like some robot.

And the "critic" wasn't, like, another expert in the field. She was reading the review of, in essence, a foxnews.com blog post!

    Self-referential much?

Love how he has to slowly explain himself as if he's talking to a child.

seems like she collected all the negative press about the book and disregarded the positive ones. fact was she was unprepared to do a biased-based bashing interview session and got pwned.

What is amazing is that people like her are considered professionals. If I was that unprepared for my job I would be let go real quick.
