Recap Oklahoma City 4, Iowa 3 The Redhawks won the series as George Springer just keeps doing what he does. Also, Asher Wojciechowski had a solid start too. Wojo went 6 innings and gave up 2 runs on 6 hits and fanned 2. Philip Humber allowed a hit in a scoreless 7th, Jorge De Leon walked 1 in a scoreless 8th, and although Josh Zeid gave up an RBI double in the 9th, he had enough about himself to slam the door. Marwin put OKC on the board 1st in the 2nd with an RBI double. Jonathan Singleton led off the 5th with a homer (4, 9 season). After Brad Nelson hit an RBI triple for Iowa that tied the game at 2 in the 6th, Mr. Springer promptly untied it with a 2-run shot (10, 29 season) in the bottom of the inning. The 29 homers give him sole possession of the Minor League lead. He, Marwin, and Jimmy Paredes each had 2 hits; Singleton had the other. The Redhawks will go for the sweep, as Brad Peacock will take on Brooks Raley. First pitch is at 7:05. Corpus Christi 5, Midland 2 Hooks get the 5-game sweep behind a 3-run 1st and a nice start from R.J. Alaniz. They also overcame the fact that their manager, Keith Bodie, got tossed in the 1st. Alaniz pitched 6 innings and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, walked 4, and struck out 2. Carlos Quevedo allowed 2 hits over 2 scoreless, and Andrew Robinson got the save, striking out 1 in a 1-2-3 9th. The Hooks stormed out of the gate with 3 in the 1st. As I mentioned, Bodie had a rather short night, as he was given the heave-ho after vehemently disputing whether Domingo Santana was out. While Santana was batting, Drew Muren scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch. Erik Castro added an RBI double, and Jonathan Meyer hit an RBI single. Santana hit a solo shot (17) in the 4th, and in the 7th, Rene Garcia hit an RBI single. Garcia and Meyer both finished 2-4. The Hooks will now head to San Antonio for 3 beginning at 7:05. In the opener, Bobby Doran will face Juan Oramas. Rancho Cucamonga 11, Lancaster 10 Sadly, the Jethawks walked off with a loss, as Travis Ballew's rough July continues. Everyone in this game had a hit except for Nolan Fontana, who was 0-5 with 2 strikeouts. Matt Duffy put Lancaster on the board in the 3rd by scoring on a wild pitch. Delino DeShields had himself a night; he went 3-4 with 5 RBI. His first 2 came on a triple in the 5th, and the other 3 came in the form of a home run (3) in the 7th, which tied the game at 7. In the 6th, Joe Sclafani grounded into a force out that scored Tyler Heineman. Sclafani hit an RBI triple in the 8th, and Chris Epps chipped in with a sac fly. After Andrew Aplin doubled in the 9th, M.P. Cokinos brought him home with a single that gave the Jethawks a 10-9 lead. But alas, that didn't last. Luis Cruz went 5 innings and allowed 5 runs on 7 hits (2 homers), walked 1, and struck out 6. Tyson Perez only got 1 out in the 6th and gave up 2 runs on 3 hits and walked 2. Kenny Long pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed 2 runs on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. Blair Walters struck out the side in order in the 8th. Ballew was able to get 2 outs in short order... but he gave up the winner, a 2-run single to Pedro Guerrero. The Jethawks will have Monday off before beginning a 3-game set with Lake Elsinore on Tuesday. Quad Cities 9, Beloit 1 The River Bandits got even in emphatic fashion as they blitzed the Snappers for 5 in the 1st and won wire-to-wire. Everyone in the lineup had a hit except for Austin Elkins, who went 0-4. Teoscar Hernandez finished a triple shy of the cycle and scored 3 times. He kicked off the day's festivities with a homer (9) to start off the game. Later in the 1st, Rio Ruiz and Terrell Joyce hit 2-run doubles. QC got 2 more in the 2nd on a sac fly from Carlos Correa and an RBI single from Dan Gulbransen. #1 added an RBI double in the 4th and The River added an RBI single in the 9th. Correa, Gulbransen, and Joyce had 2 hits apiece. Rio and Teoscar both went 3-5. Joe Bircher threw 7 shutout innings and allowed 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2. Mitch Lambson pitched the final 2 innings, allowing a run (in the 9th) on 4 hits and striking out 2. The series finale will be at 7:00 and will feature Colton Cain taking on Seth Streich. Connecticut 3, Tri-City 0 For the 2nd straight game, the ValleyCats were blanked. They had 4 hits, with Brett Booth and Tony Kemp having 2 apiece. Both of them hit a double. Andrew Thurman allowed 2 runs on 6 hits (solo homer), walked 1, and struck out 4 in 5 innings of work. Richard Rodriguez allowed a run on 3 hits in the 6th. And, Michael Feliz threw 3 scoreless, allowing 4 hits and fanning 4. The ValleyCats will look to split the series tomorrow. Starters for both sides are TBA. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern. Greeneville 10, Pulaski 1 The Appy Astros offense came alive as they absolutely buried Pulaski to salvage a game in the series. Everyone in the lineup had at least 1 hit except for Edwin Gomez, who was 0-4 with a golden sombrero. I'll get to that in a moment. Jandel Gustave allowed a run (on a sac fly in the 3rd), a single, walked 6, and struck out 4 in 5 innings. Chris Munnelly threw 3 hitless innings for the win, and he walked 1 and fanned 2. Krishawn Holley allowed a hit and struck out 1 to close it out. The Greeneville offense was dormant until Tyler White put them in front with a 2-run single in the 6th. Brian Holberton extended the lead with a 2-run homer (2) in the 7th, and then they decided to extend it some more in the 8th. Chase McDonald hit a 2-run double to kick it off. That was followed by RBI singles from Juan Santana and Thomas Lindauer. And finally, Tanner Mathis provided the cherry with a 2-run single. Mathis hit a double in the 6th, which represents his first professional extra-base hit. He, Phillips, McDonald, Holberton, Santana, and Lindauer all had 2 hits. White and Marc Wik had 1 each. The Appy Astros will welcome Burlington to Pioneer Park. Their starter is TBA. Whoever starts will take on Sam Lewis at 7:00 Eastern.
Rio Ruiz is actually turning in a pretty solid season after a slow start. It doesn't compare to Correa, but there is a reason Correa was the 1-1.
Perhaps I'm just overly focused on Correa because he was the first pick, but it seems like a remarkable amount of Carlos' hits result in RBIs. Even days when he just goes 1-4, it seems like that one hit was an RBI single. I'm sure part of that is me focusing more on the RBI hits than normal (or less emphasis from tellitlikeitis when #1 doesn't knock in runs) but I like that he seems to really step it up when he has the best chance to impact the game.

Well, he's #2 from the Hunter Pence trade to make it to the bigs. He was probably the least likely of the bunch from the outset (maybe ahead of Santana). Singleton will make it in the next year, and Santana has a shot. 4 major leaguers for Hunter Pence is a pretty good deal, especially given the upside those guys have.
The call-up of Chia Jen Lo is interesting to me. We were all so excited about him back in the day, but he hasn't pitched over 20IP in a single year since 2009 and he's never made it above AA. And yet, Rob Ford (radio broadcaster) said today that he was one of the most impressive relievers at Spring Training. Fast forward to now, and the organization is giving him a chance in the bigs over guys like Stoffel and Chapman. So color me intrigued. It's almost impossible to know what to expect (he has basically zero track record), but apparently the org's internal evaluations are high enough to give this thing a shot.

Only Rodon (12.93), Manaea (11.41), and Sean Newcomb (11.50) had a higher K/9 in DI than Hess. Hess also threw 20+ more innings than Manaea and Newcomb.
Was Lo already on the 40 man? Might be why he got a shot before a couple of others. I have liked him and wanted to see him already so not saying he isn't worth a shot just saying that might have helped, if indeed he was already on it
