It's hard to sit this long and just step on the field. While he did leave the game with a 95 qb rating in his last season as a Titan, left with an overall solid winning % as starter, and boat load of 4th quarter comebacks, think this ship has sailed. The NFL doesn't normally re-open its doors like the nba does. Once you are out of the league it's hard to get a second chance. He'll probably always have a job. But hard to go from millions to a nominal wage earner. That's a major transition. That said, in this economy, lot's of folk going through it.
If he comes back to have a mediocre career and just ONE good moment you can expect a movie in 20 years. I mean, this almost seems fictional already. High School star. College Football legend. Controversial yet successful NFL pro. Severe conflict with his coach. Very dramatic exit from the team who drafted him and the owner who loved him. Goes broke. Most of his value in possessions taken away. I mean, this **** writes itself.
A 7 year thread. I loved watching him lead the Titans. He's a gamer and if he can get in shape again, he'd be great to watch again. I saw him recently at a club in Austin. I'll say I wasn't impressed with his shape, but if he put in the work, he'd be great.
If he doesn't get a chance again, he should just go to work for some Austin investment company as a guy who raises capital. Think of how much cash VY could bring in just by golfing and hanging out with UT alums...
I don't know. I think many here in Austin are kind of fed up with him. He still has some cache, but the glow has certainly dimmed...even in Austin. Colt McCoy on the other hand...
I really don't think an all-encompassing Vince Young thread is the way to go (prevents people from seeing this news), but I'll post it here as well: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Breaking: Source: Vince Young will sign a 1-year deal with <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23Packers&src=hash">#Packers</a>.</p>— Josina Anderson (@JosinaAnderson) <a href="https://twitter.com/JosinaAnderson/statuses/364500500156137473">August 5, 2013</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
I was under the impression his only route to the NFL was going to the CFL and he was stupid for not taking it.
Wisconsin is close enough to Canada for government work, eh? If you would've told me in 2006 that by 2013 Vince Young would be a Packer, Mario Williams would be a Bill, and Reggie Bush would be on his 3rd team as a Lion, I would've told you that you were nuts.
You take what you can get. And I'll be rooting for him. But the two things I think that will be a challenge. The first is it's cold there, and I never felt like VY's game could thrive in Philly, or in Buffalo, and always just thought those were poor choices when somewhere like Miami would have better suited to his style. And then second, hard to roll off your couch and get back to where he was. He was never sharp as a Titan when coming off the bench. I always felt he needed time on the field to get his confidence and timing back, which Fisher continuously tried to strip from 'em, and it's been a few years now. Rooting for him, but think it will be tough. That said, this dude has been doubted before. In a pass happy offense, from the gun, I think he would have been more successful than under center, and it seems like he might get that in the Bay. Hope it's not too late.
in the words of run dmc, doooon't believe the hype. What was supposed to be a once in a lifetime draft class, turned out to be a below average one.
