Its OK to 'push the buttoms', but when you want to trade away a player because some posters on sports board, then you are being immature, and stray away from a team fan.
OK And again if Lin was a great player it would be crazy if they trade Lin and they wouldn't. As it is he is not a great player. The Rockets can and will do fine without Lin. He is nothing special and in my opinion never will be. He has nothing special that most guards can bring. All stats and his play say this with confidence.
Pointless debating with Luckytxn. I have been reading Luckytxn post in Ultimate Rockets, having have to bare it for a whole year. In here it's very much toned down, but in UR it's plain crazy nuts.
Some of the LOFs who could care less about the Rockets and say ridiculous things like Harden being a ball hog or call people racist or talk smack sbout Houston can suck it, and clearly they don't know basketball. I condemn to the utmost, and do so often. I've called those cats out but mostly I treat them as I would a rambling idiot on the street; I steer clear from them or pay them no mind. And conversely, those who are complete haters who spew venom cuz they hate Lin and who do actually make racist comments, I steer clear from them as well. Where I do engage in talks like these are when I feel the poster is sensible yet seems to have skewed away from reason in re Lin or when I feel liking defending one of my favorite players from unfair treatment or when I just want to voice opinion in regards to Lin. Rarely do I talk bad about a Rocket, mostly because I love our guys. I only do so and bring in Bev cuz it pertains to he comparison at hand. Even then, I hate it cuz I think Bev is a solid player with potential both offensively and defensively. That's all. If Lin were a negative to the Rockets, you would not hear a peep from me defending him, but IMO that was not the case with Lin last year nor do I feel it will be this year. I do think he should start as it will really help set he tone from get go (important) and think he will be a big part of our chances for success but I am not permanently stuck in that opinion as it can change if he doesn't do well this year. And I especially hate it when I defend Lin as a true basketball fan and get grouped in together with idiots who call everyone racist and don't like Houston. It's unfair and upsetting. Anyways, I am excited about this comin year and i will root do everyone to do well.
Nice post!! Would rep you but I can't seem to find a rep button for you. The basics of defense is arguably easy to comprehend and if you come up on me, I'd blow by you, draw and create a mismatch nearly every time (when I was younger). Lin has impeccable spacing and understanding of spacing and those who question his defense, I seriously question their basketball knowledge. Not to say that there isn't time for pressuring the ball, or that in certain matchups it would work, just that there is no perfect defender but a defender who understands spacing and funneling whether it be with hands or through stance. Battier was great back in the days, but he'd get ripped every once in a while and it wasn't a knock on his defense, imo.
Completely disagree. And though I may not have your years, I've gone to over 500 games, watch League Pass and cable like you wouldn't believe, played at a high level up in high school against NBA level talent (could've sworn I was better than Arthur Lee in high school, played pickup ball with Jacque Vaughn all the time besting him a time or two), coached for over a decade or thereabouts. I have sons who are basketball fanatics and even if you don't see it, I do. I do believe Lin has potential and it is our jobs as fans to root for him to do so. Same as with those fascinated with D-Mo. Dude got potential. And Lin's brief but stellar year in New York confirms his promise, though it may not pan out that way in the end. But everyone readily gives Canaan, TJ, D-Mo and Bev the benefit of the doubt when it comes to potential, and excuses Dwight, CP3, Shump, or whomever when coming back from injury, but Lin... So many people are resigned not to give Lin credit that it's frustrating and a little bit disheartening. How is doing well (Linsanity) not indicative of anything, but doing okay (Rockets Lin) damning and clearly a sign that he will not reach his potential?? Sigh~~
OK Please do and I promise to acknowledge I was wrong. Honestly though Lin will not be with us then. If he becomes consistent (and I will stick by estimate of it being the last year of his contract) he will demand a salary more than the Rockets can pay him and he will be gone anyway. Since he is not playing as a Rocket I could care less how he does as a player.
You seem to be very passionate. I applaud your willingness to engage and look for common understanding. Although I myself have said some regrettable things on CF, I do think you are looking for, and finding, hate where it doesn't actually exist. I just wonder if the frustration that you keep expressing isn't self-inflicted to some degree. It's all just opinion
Lin is Good That is so cool and I engaged with the back and forth with you because you seemed level headed and we had good chats that I enjoyed. I can see your point of Lin starting instead and the smoother offense being better maybe. I also like the idea a lot of a defensive demon coming in and disrupting the opposing play maker and us scoring and then Lin coming in and hopefully keeping the offense running smoothly. Both sides have merit I feel. Glad a Lin fan doesn't like the discord that comes from the attacking and vile talking when trying to discuss the Rockets. Please take care and God bless. Engage anytime you feel like and I will do the same.
Cool I never played at a high level myself and wasn't a great scorer but was more known as a goon. One of those big bodies that would crash the board willingly also if a player wanted to come into where I was to make them pay somewhat. As a point guard I would pretty much pass it off and then go and create the havoc and set a pick well just pretty much what I could. As for the experience of watching well lets just say I am in my 50's and have been a fan since the early 70's and just watch when I can. I have been fortunate to seen the great players in that time. I am very excited to see this team next year.
I've said my share of dumb things. I've been somewhat childish at times. I've behaved in ways that I never would in the real world. And yes, some of it may be me being sensitive. It goes both ways, I'm sure. Thanks for the comment. Appreciate it a lot.
I guess you didn't know that Lin is the only role player who is capable of making millions in endorsements IF he wants to. Two-week trip to Asia will net him millions. If he wants to stay after this contract, he will more likely sign for less and make up the difference in endorsements. If he decides to play elsewhere, he would just leave. He is not as money hungry as you think. He did turned down lots endorsements after Linsanity went viral.
Agreed! He' probably earning more in endorsements than his $5 mil salary. It was reported by his agent during the height of Linsanity, that Lin declined endorsements that would net approx. $100 mil.
