I have the same concerns as you do. He lacks lateral quickness. He needs to work very hard and long hours on defense, rebounding and holding his position in the post. If he can't do that, he will end up like David Andersen.
Come on, there is a big difference between David Anderson and Dmo. Anderson never showed the potential of Dmo. We won't know for sure how it's going to turn out but from reports Dmo played good in practice last year and it looks like he is working hard on getting better and stronger this summer. I think any first year in the NBA is a big adjustment for any rookie but I think it is even more so when your coming from a foreign country and have to make the adjustment. Dmo moves great for a 7 footer, he passed great and had a great post up game at times for a rookie. Lets hope he shows improvement and has a big year.
I cringe everytime David Andersen shot that near 3 pointer.... Almost every time it would be one step short
d-mo has all the talent in the world ...he was in a stressed situation last season and played limited minutes. Hopefully we'll see some positive improvement from him when the new season starts!
Dirk has never shied away from the dirty work. I realized this on that playoff game where the Mailman through a bow and knocked one of Dirk's teeth out. Dirk kept on going after him and was not intimidated.
I still believe the DMo has high potential. You don't see many 7-footers who can move that quickly. And he has shown some flashes of shooting and passing skills. These can all be improved through experience and hard work. What is unclear is whether he is able to do the dirty work, pushing and shoving under the basket, defending the post, etc.
I don't know what people see in dmo. I've been like this before we even got him. People got offended when I said he needed to get stronger.
D_mo can't rebound, can't defense, what does u expect him to do? There is a long long way for him to live in NBA
Lithuanian national team coach Jonas Kazlauskas answered the question about D-Mo today. Q: Donatas Motiejunas has previously been criticized for being too "soft" and playing away from basket too often although he is even 213 centimetres tall. How is he doing now? A: Yes, that was the problem. There is no secret. While I was a Greek team's coah I watched the 2009 European Championship for Men Under 20, held in the island of Rhodes in Greece. And I was really disappointed about his game. But what we are seeing now - he is one of the hardest working players, raring to finally get into team this year. I see that Donatas' body is already different, he is combining and improving the game into the perimeter and under the basket. If Donatas finds that balance - he will become a huge force.
A fascinating video from the last half of last season. I don't know if has been posted so I am just putting it here. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/jQQNGqgo2Rc?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=jQQNGqgo2Rc
probably the most honest/real interview we've seen so far. it sounded like he was burned out a little bit
