I watched every single game. My question to you is DID YOU? Because if you did, then you'd know that it makes my point perfectly. In the end it was still up to Parker, Duncan and Ginobli to step up EVEN if Danny Green stepped up his game. Because guess whose hand the ball was in most of the time?

Exactly. When Danny green was hitting all those threes, the spurs only won because of the superior play of Manu.

No the SPURS only lost because of Manu. But you know why Ginobli still gets the ball? Because he is the star of the team.

So who is more important to have gone beyond expectations to win a championship during the finals? Was it Danny Green? Or Ginobli? The person with less usage %? Or the person with more usage %?

I'll give you all a hint, the person is not Danny Green.

    It doesn't make your point.

Your best players are already expected to perform at a certain level, but there is always the X-factor player that often has to take his game to another level.

Danny Green was a major factor in the Spurs playoff run. He was vital to the Spurs almost beating the Heat and almost winning the championship.

People already expect Harden to get 20+ points, or Howard to be a major defensive presence and grab 10+ rebounds. What people (or at least I do) think will get Houston over the top is if Lin steps up as well and performs at a high level.

If anything, this is a compliment for Jeremy Lin.

Don't bother, they are so defensive about Lin and think if you say anything you must be hating on him. It's complete lInsanity.

Anything you say about Lin = racist bias everyone on CF is against us.

I have a hard time seeing lin having the ball enough to average more than the 13 and 6 from last year.

Terrence Jones could develop quickly into a Rich man's Lamar Odom. If that's the case then we are in the discussion.

    Wow.

L.O. was a machine in his heyday with the late '00s Lake Show. He could score inside-out, was a versatile, hard-nosed defender, ran the floor, handled the rock with ease, and on many occasions, out-rebounded both Bynum and Gasol.

I'd be elated if Jones evolved into an Odom-type for this team.

I guess I should have said a more consistent Odom. Odom was a better passer and more versatile. However I see TJ being a better defender and better finisher and shooter. Odom's FG % for his career was short of his potential.

Why does it matter if it's a compliment to Lin or not? Stop generalizing people who have different opinions to a category. The question here isn't whether having a X-factor player will win a championship or not. The question here is who has to go beyond expectations/ceilings to win a championship.

Like I said, it's simple math. If Jeremy Lin is the most important one to have to go beyond expectations to get the team to win a championship, then you are all deeming him to be star to superstar caliber who carries the team to victory or loses. But this is clearly not the case for this team.

I'm going to try to put it as simple as I can. Let say in a team of Kobe, Nash, Gasol, Jordan Hill, and umm... Earl Clark for now, who needs to step up to get the team to championship in 2014? It's not going to be Hill or Clark, why? Because they won't be the main handler of the ball. As is the case with Lin.

Yes if he steps up, it will help the team, such is the case with Danny Green. But IN THE END, the most important to step up and go beyond expectations are the people with the most control of the game, Parker, Duncan, and Ginobli. In fact because Ginobli failed to step up, the SPURS didn't get the championship. Doesn't matter how much Danny Green stepped up. You see how it works now? In the Rockets case, Lin shouldn't be the most important factor to step up. In fact the only reason this responsibility should go to Lin is if he's become the anchor of the team or something horrible has gone wrong.

If Rockets are projected to go to first round playoff, then the people that need to step up to get to second round are Harden and Howard. If they need to go beyond, then both Harden and Howard need to do EVEN MORE to go beyond. If Rockets are going for the win, then Harden and Howard better be ready to push way beyond their limits to get there.

Such will always be the case of any team.

You are also generalizing, why don't you read my point instead of pushing everything that disagrees with you into one category for belittlement sake.

Why do you just think all fans of Lin just started watching basketball last year? You act as if they're saying something completely ridiculous like Lin is the greatest of all time. What they're arguing is not that off base. Lin is realistically the 3rd and most probably the 4th option. Sure, if he improves that helps a lot, but it isn't going to make a HUGE difference. Honestly, this whole team has to over achieve if we are gonna win it all. But when you're talking about who will make the most impact, it's gotta be the superstars who need to overachieve. Deep in the playoffs you'll be playing against the likes of Lebron and KD. Role players are important but in the end it's the superstars that really take the team over the hump. You saw it with Dirk in 2011 and LeBron last year

    Its not generalizing.

And you still don't understand. Or you refuse to listen. This is going beyond expectation, so Harden and Dwight playing well or better in the playoffs is expected.

Is Lebron going beyond expectations if he drops 25/5/5? Is Danny Green going beyond expectations if he goes 7-9 from 3s?

Do you see the simple difference?

The Lebron example isn't a good one because Lebron's expectation is to win a championship for the team.

Using your own example, Lin's expectation is to shoot good % from the 3pt line correct?

And Howard and Harden's expectation is to get us into a deep playoff run correct?

So who's expectation to go beyond is more important here to get us a championship.

Seriously, THIS HERE is the simple difference.

    What are you talking about.

You just shifted the context of the word expectation from what is expected he will do on the court to what is expected of his legacy.

Talk about making **** up as you go.

And no I did not say Lin has to shoot a good % from 3 to go beyond expectation.

And to add that, if you think Lin exceeding expectation shooting a OH MY GAWD better % of 3 is more important than Howard and Harden doing extraordinary well to get us the championship than their projected skill sets that puts us in a playoff run, then I have nothing else to say.

I joined CF because of Lin (I guess that kinda makes me an LOF?) but I totally agree with what you said. If Lin becomes considerably more consistent in his play and in his shot next season, that will cement his position as a 3rd (or 4th) scoring option. Who knows, maybe he can even earn the right to be THE floor general. I believe that Lin just has to show he's confident enough.

But, even if Lin won't get as many touches next season due to Howard now being a part of the team, he can still stay play a crucial part in the team's success if he's able to hit those outside shots. It won't be Linsanity, but I won't find it any less exciting to watch as long as this team's winning.

Anyway, this is just to let you guys know that not all Lin fans share the same convictions. Hope ya'll have a happy weekend.

Even if we go by expectations in the court, is it more important for Jeremy Lin to go beyond expectations in the court or Harden and Howard to go beyond?

Seriously IT IS THE SAME THING. I don't understand why you need to argue about this. It would always be needed for your stars and superstars that controls the game to go beyond expectations on the court to carry the team.

    I definitely think its Harden

He needs to develop as a fierce leader, team oriented player and play defense otherwise he will be a Marbury, Francis that gets nice stats but not win or evolve

I voted for the bench. I have no doubts that the starters are able to beat just about any team in the NBA. Therefore, it is down to the bench to give that push which is sufficient to take it over the top. I don't know if Terrence Jones will play as a starter or come from the bench, but I predict that he will improve significantly. That would be one of the difference makers. Garcia from the bench is not a surprise factor, because he is a very valuable piece as is. My black horse is Casspi. If he gets 20 min and produces 10/5/2, the Rockets will be all set.

Where did this crap come from? Because I disagree that Lin is the most important piece in overachieving for us to win the championship this year, all of this stuff from you is true? Pleaseeeeeeeee dude, get off your high horse. Just because you are 80 and been around basketball for 90 years doesn't make you an expert.

Your opinion is just that, an opinion. It is also flawed because role players only help teams win championships when SUPERSTARS play extremely well and role players are that X factor. If your superstars don't step up, and I mean big time step up, not just put in decent stats, you can't win a championship with only your role players overachieving.

You complain about supposed LOFs saying that JLin is a superstar and you say that he isn't, but then you want him to perform like a superstar. That is bipolar behavior. Lin is a role player on this team, until and unless he becomes a superstar. I never thought he was a superstar because of 20 games of "Linsanity".
