Yea it's gotten awfully quiet, which sometimes is a sign that some deals are about to go down

He's 28 years old, we won't be a .500 next year and probably not a .500 team the year after that. Then he'll be a 30 year old fourth or fifth starter on a team that isn't in contention for anything. What's the point of that? I think that a 28 year old Bud Norris will have higher value in trade than a 30 year old Bud Norris not only due to age but to contract. Bud is also having his best season ERA wise. He's ripe to be traded.

That would shock the hell out of me.

It's only stupid if you don't get something you need more than a good fourth starter. If you get a couple of live arms or a potential fourth starter who is much younger in return then it's a good deal. I'm not in favor of giving him away for a 4A outfielder, Luhnow should get value or he should hold out until the offseason and look again.

Thanks. I've pretty much explained why what was said was wrong and you haven't countered with anything but insults, so good job.

In all honesty, YOU are the one who brought the insults here, and they were directed at me. I didn't insult you back, but whatever on that. You are showing a very low level of character to accuse someone else of throwing out insults on this thread though.

And for the record, you have not explained anything showing that I was wrong, you have simply given your opinion on a matter. If we aren't going to be competitive until around 2019 or so then I would agree let's just take what we can get for Bud. I just think the level of talent in the farm system is great and will begin to take effect much sooner than that.

In any case, insult if you want, or involve yourself in baseball discussions. But don't tell someone else they are only throwing out insults, when you are in fact the one doing so.

If you think saying you're wrong is an insult then you need to lighten up cowboy.

If you are going to be arrogant and tell me that I am wrong and you are right, at least get your facts right. He had a better ERA in 2011 than he does now.

If McCullars, Folty, Springer and Singleton come up and prove to match the hype, this team could turn it around faster than you think.

Let's hope so. I don't know the percentage of top prospects that tend to pan out historically but you're right, if they're near all-star quality right out of the box then it could happen more quickly. I just think three or four years down the road is more likely.

I completely agree, especially is Cosart proves to be the real deal. And Appel is a guy who could move very quickly also. Luhnow has done a tremendous job of building this thing the right way. At this point we don't have to move guys just to add depth to the farm, we have great depth on the farm already. If a deal doesn't likely make us better in 2-3 years then tell them no thanks

If I were to bet, I'd say we hold onto Norris, gauge his market...and trade him in the offseason.

There's no need to rush into a trade right now, a la what we did with Wandy.

I think Luhnow knows not to flip a valuable piece JUST to flip them. Last year was different, with our farm system still somewhat barren.

Though I understand Luhnow's stance to improve our farm's depth, it's clear that we SHOULD have gotten a much better haul for Wandy. Considering his performance this year (3.59 ERA, 46/12 K:BB, 1.12 WHIP, .240 BAA), and the fact that we're paying 5 M of his contract--I'd rather we wait and gauge then move just to move.

Bud is a good quality pitcher, who also happens to be really cheap and under team control. I, personally, dont see why teams are willing to give up more for pitchers like Peavy or Gallardo--who are more expensive, have worse stats, have NO team control, and have an injury history.

IMO, I think the media has tended to downgrade and knit-pick houston's assets (Wandy, Bud) as compared to other teams. I don't know weather this has an actual effect in negotiations, but...in Luhnow I trust

I'm as excited about our prospects as anyone is, but to be realistic, most likely one of our top guys that myself and most of us are very high on right now will probably bust in the majors. But if none of them do then yeah we are going to turn this around pretty quickly.

Can we go back to discussing trade rumors here? Please?

I mean it is obvious that cometswin has proven me and my opinions to be completely wrong, Bud has a negative value to our team and must be sold to the highest bidder regardless of the return, because we are the worst team in baseball. Right?

In any case, let's see this thread go back to trade rumors and opinions, good or bad, right or wrong

Well let's start with the tweet that comets posted. Not surprising to see Luhnow asking for a lot for Veras. This has been a very quiet deadline so far, with only garza and soriano being dealt.

Yea, so many of these deals go down at the last minute as several teams try to decide whether they are "in it" or not. I definitely think Veres gets moved by Wednesday. He has been very solid this year and you can never have too many quality arms in your pen when you are trying to contend.
