People got to stop with these notions of position. In today's NBA they really arent much differents between Guards, forward, center. Just like this debate has been going on forever, I still remember people getting upset over Tmac being a point forward. The game itself is not limited to the role or what each role does. It limits itself my the skillset of the player and the team makeup/coach game plan. Doesnt matter if D12 is center or forward, doesn't matter at all. The game plan with the team makeup just isnt efficient to have both D12 and Asik playing at the same time other than some unique makeups.
I agree with your final assessment, but the argument doesn't make any sense. 1,2,3,4,5....Those are just labels that help to determine a basic role on the court. No one cares what he's actually called. This debate has always been about his role on the court in relation to the other big man.
I believe you should start your own site and that way you can set any admin rights that you like... There's a reason that those rights have been disabled. T_Man
And once again, no plays were drawn for Asik or Smith when they were on the floor. Plays will be drawn for Howard, and it's just too easy for Asik's man to double-team him. You missed your opportunity to brighten the thread with a joke of your own.
As discussed many, many times- Morey himself says no they almost certainly cannot play together, but its possible McHale will "EXPERIMENT" a little bit with the Asik/Howard lineup to look at POTENTIALLY using that lineup against teams like Memphis or SA that have a large front line at the end of games maybe in a defensive minded (holding pattern) set. On offense he said that is clearly creates major challenges. So, yes its possible we will see those two on the court together in SMALL increments. However, dont expect to see much of it if any at all.
Great.... another one of these MUCH discussed ideas that new members just think is so special since they though of it that it deserves another r****ded thread to clutter up the front page... For the upteenth time, Howard cannot play 4. There are some very basic reasons for this: - He cannot shoot outside 3 ft from the rim - He is a poor passer, shooter, and ball handler - He can no longer use speed mismatch at the 4 like he can at the 5 - We signed him to be our starting CENTER not our PF D12 may switch off to guard a stretch 4 because only he is quick enough, but on offense he will not be anything more than a 5.
We should have a twin towers dedicated thread. OP sorry for the hate since I too want to talk about it. Twin towers? I mean to me thats some extreme nastiness. Just like a draft board in some ways you have to play 5 best available. Our best players include Asik so you have to start him. I wouldn't whine about positioning in as much as Asik is there for weak side offensive rebounding on offense. On defense Asik is a rebounding machine as well. Imagine the number of rebounds Asik and Howard should generate. Almost not fair. Also that kind of length then parsons at SF that's a lot of length defensively. I like it. You have to play Asik and howard. Also you can interchange positions PF and C. It's not like Asik has to stand in a certain place the whole time or has some hard fast rule. Are people saying that Howard cant guard PF? Or that Howard cant dominate a PF as much as he could a center? Who says we have to play howard at PF?We could have howard as feature center(5) then have asik crashing boards all day long. Our best lineup is Howard Asik Parsons Harden Whoever ( from a list of Lin,garcia, beverly . casspi, williams etc) That is our A team. Extreme nastiness. Not sure why this is so bad? Its awesome!
Yea I contributed about a month ago and haven't been switched to "conributing member" with those privileges yet either. No big deal, but let's not smoke the OP for not using search when he can't in fact use it
He is still not playing PF. He is playing C that guards the opposing PF. Basically if both are starting, we simply do not have a power forward. We will have a PG, SG, SF, and two C's.
Defensively we would be fine, in fact anything we lose with Dwight having to guard a 4 would easily be made up with the rebounding advantage we would almost certainly have. On offense, it obviously would create some challenges, although if we want to run run run like last year, we would be so good defensive rebounding we could get a lot of opportunities to do so
Although I agree with you (that Howard and Asik can play together), their weakness would be in shooting range. Both, under conventional thought, need to be close to, if not under, the basket. However, I think both have range out to 12 feet and would protect each other from double teaming. Then Parsons, Harden and Lin could launch trey bombs or duck inside for mid-range shots. The result would be an offensive nightmare for other teams and a defensive wet dream for us fans.
Another thing people forget, the Twin Towers worked because of who Sampson and Olajuwon were. Sampson was a freak athlete. He was tall, lanky, fast, and naturally able to move between the 4 and the 5. Hakeem was also a freak athlete who was long and fast. Those 2 are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than what we have in Asik and Howard. Here are some specific reasons: - Neither Asik and Howard can reliably hit a shoot that's not point blank next to the goal - BOTH Asik and Howard suck at shooting FT's and neither have shown impressive footwork - Asik is much slower than Dream, Sampson, or Howard and would often simply just clog up the paint
He needs to be the PF..Houston would lead the league in rebounds..Not many teams with big man combos..
