The X-Men's wetwork, special ops team. I'd be shocked if Wolverine isn't in it.

The next major film in the X-Men franchise, "X-Force," got some new details revealed via an interview by /Film with writer Jeff Wadlow and consultant Mark Millar.

"I love the current incarnation, 'Uncanny X-Force,'" Wadlow told /Film. "I love what Rob did in the nineties. I remember buying 'X-Force' #1 and what I’ve really loved about the announcement that we are working on the movie is how excited people are by the potential, but also how curious they are like, 'What’s the line up?' What’s interesting with 'X-Men,' I mean they have an iconic lineup, so you know who is going to be in that movie, but 'X-Force,' it’s like, 'Who is it going to be?' I love that people are guessing."

"People are going to be dissecting every name as it gets released, so it’s will be so cool when you have your five," said Millar, confirming the number of the main team.

Millar elaborated on which characters might show up in an interview with Crave Online, somewhat dodging the question of whether "X-Force" will feature a concept more akin to "Uncanny X-Force" or the original incarnation of the series.

"I can't officially say, but I think it's always wise to go back to the beginning of something," Millar told Crave Online. "Marvel is very good like that, going back to the first issues and looking at what made it work. Don't look at number 650, look at number 1."

We know Kick-Ass 2‘s Jeff Wadlow has been hired to write, and possibly direct, an X-Force movie for Fox. Beyond that, however, details are slim. Indeed, it’s not even clear which lineup of heroes the X-Force movie will feature.

But we now might know how many heroes to expect.

Wadlow and Mark Millar spoke with Slash Film at Comic-Con International to promote the upcoming Kick-Ass sequel, and naturally the discussion turned to the developing X-Force. On the topic of which characters Wadlow intends to use for X-Force, the writer kept his lips sealed. Millar, however, let out an interesting detail.

“People are going to be dissecting every name as it gets released,” said Millar, Fox’s consultant on all things Marvel. “So it will be so cool when you have your five.”

Five, he says. That doesn’t exactly narrow down which characters are going to make it into the film — the modern-day Uncanny X-Force lineup is much closer to that number than the robust Rob Liefeld era — but Wadlow has made it clear he’s a fan of both versions.

“I love the current incarnation, Uncanny X-Force. I love what Rob did in the ’90s,” he said. “What’s interesting with X-Men, I mean they have an iconic lineup, so you know who’s going to be in that movie. But X-Force it’s like, ‘Who is it going to be?’ I love that people are guessing.”

X-Force without Cable, Boom Boom, and Domino, for example, seems weird to me. But admittedly I read my last comic book in the early 90's.

Wait... I guess this means that Fox has all of the "X" related rights?

I thought they just had X-Men.

Does that mean they also own X-Factor and Weapon X and like... I don't know... Excalibur?

Me either, but honestly, the Liefeld books were cheesy as hell.

This movie has the potential to be absolutely awesome.

I've honestly never liked an X-Force story but I haven't read the new ones with Archangel and Wolverine. Isn't the premise of the new X-Force to have Wolverine do the dirty work? It fits Wolverine's comic character well but not the movie version where he's a softie instead of a man who can turn into a cold blooded killer at the drop of a dime.

I think X-Factor makes more sense. The original X-Men never got their fair shot in any of the current stories. Build those characters, they're some of the best. Introduce Apocalypse. Then, when the time is right, maybe you do Cable and his X-Force.

The one thing about all of the X-Men moves that frustrates me is that key characters and character relationships were never developed. In the movie world Cyclops and Wolverine have spent what, 2 days worth of time together total? We've seen long time friends Beast and Cyclops interact how many times? Oh yeah, never. The stories work but the movies are completely devoid of the character interaction that Whedon handled so well in Avengers.

Archangel needs a movie. With the CG now if done correctly it would be sick!

Yeah it would be nice to see Cyclops portrayed as a confident, capable leader instead of a dorky straight man to offset Wolverine. Pretty weak casting for him.

Angel, Iceman, and Beast could be much better than the way they were handled in the movies as well. (actually I liked Beast in First Class to a degree, but that was the "kid" version, I want the real Beast) Kelsey Grammar could have worked, but the writing was terrible.

Oh man, Excalibur. I really loved that series. It's the only comic books series I've ever read through from beginning to end (not counting short mini-series type things, of course). Got through all... I think it was 125 issues? Plus every one-shot/special I could find. Think I've still got the entire series stuffed in a box, somewhere.

Truth be told, I'm not even sure why it grabbed me so much, but it did.

Hollywood is so boring now. Just adaptation after adaptation...very little originality...

How many freaking comic book movies do we need?

It's mainstream now, like spy movies, horror movies and car chase movies. There will always be one in the pipe.
