The plight of the Aboriginal Australians is particularly tell.

"Aboriginal Australians- A history sine 1788" by Richard Broome does a great job of listing specific programs set in place by the European invaders of the continent and their descendants that were designed to marginalize and destroy aboriginal australians and their way of life. That struggle is continuing up until this day.

Blacks in India face similar problems.

What does that have to do with the white people you presumably encounter in daily life and distrust?

 

Meh...... Amaru is alright.

He doesn't seem to have an issue with individual white people and is very honest and matter of fact about his opinions. his opinion is also not that far from the norm. There are many blacks that do not like or trust white people and vice versa. Having said that, I do believe that he removes personal responsibility and over simplifies the matter sometimes.

Having said that most people I know well have some bias or opinion that I do not necessarily agree with. My brother dislikes whites, my wife's family dislikes blacks and whites and Muslims. People have different opinions based on their experienes.

 

There's one simple difference between white racism and racism from minorities; because the US is a country where political, economic, and social power still lies mostly in the white community, white racism has a much greater societal effect on the targets of their racism. In other words, minority racism, beyond very specific and extraordinary circumstances, is powerless; all it does is hurt the feelings of white people.

 

Even a casual understanding of history shows that every ethic group, race, and culture acted in some savage manner against another people. Europeans, having a geographical advantage, essentially won domination over the world, but that wasn't because they were more evil than the groups they conquered. Europeans didn't do anything to Indians, Africans, or Mayans that those groups weren't already doing to each other.

Slavery was evil, but for the vast majority of human history, it existed everywhere, even parts of the world that Europeans had never visited.

I am not defending what European nations did, only pointing out that other cultures would have done the same thing if they had the same capabilities.

And don't forget that Europe was invaded from the East more times than I have the patience to list. And slavers and pirates,from the coast of Northern Africa, took Europeans hostage and shipped them back to the Middle East. And then, of course, there is the Ottoman Empire, and their hunger for European slaves.

 

Flowery rhetoric will never justify hate.

But this is tribalism, that awful primitive desire to run with the pack, and to belong, and in belonging, to hate anyone who doesn't belong, and so we look to justify it by saying that it's not racist to hate the dominate culture. But it is racist and it's counterproductive, which is the tragic part, because the hate acts like an anchor on progress.

 

I don't have children....but assuming I do, I will teach them who they are and to love themselves.

I will also teach them the sad truth about this world......that they will be viewed with contempt if not anger simply because of the color of their skin and the fact they have the audacity to live.

 

The whole " they had their hands in the cookie jar too" argument is childish.

Who cares if everybody else wasn't perfect....that didn't/doesn't give Europeans the right to destroy billions of live and in some case drive certain ethnic groups to EXTINCTION.

 

haha - you are the one claiming exploitation in modern society but you can't even point to examples - just that everyone is exploiting your people - whatever that means.

That was a specific example.....but seeing that kind of behavior played out all over the world for as long as anybody can remember causes the mistrust.

The stories I hear from my elders also feed into the mistrust...the stories we have heard are unimaginable and from the looks on their faces, there is more we haven't heard. They warn us..and I'm not going to take any chances.
