writer knows nothing about rockets' strategy .. only 3s and layups/dunks... no midrange.. hence why parsons sidesteps on pump fakes instead of going into a midrange shot.

I met a guy out in midtown Houston this past weekend that claimed Parsons isnt a starter on a contending team. Basically he claimed that if Parsons was on a contending team they wouldnt go anywhere....I was drunk by it literally took every muscle in my body to not smack the $#%@ out of him

Chandler Parsons is exactly the type of elite "glue" player elite teams need. He can play the 3 and 4. He can guard 3 different positions. He can at times score enough to carry the Rockets when Harden is struggling. He is nearly a 40% three point shooter (and can get this shot at will), he shoots close to 50% from the field. He passes well, he rebounds well and he has improved at putting the ball on the floor and creating.

Some fans on here are going to be surprised by how much the Rockets will pay him.

I think he's best used at the 3-point line to stretch the defense with a 3-point threat, and punish defenders that go to help on Harden/Howard. I also think he could play a good Horry-like role in Howard post-ups, dumping the ball in and taking 3 if his defender tries the double-team.

Parsons is best in used as a stretch 4 from the 3 point line. If you think he played well at the 4 last year, just wait until this season with Howard. If you look at when Howard has been at his best, it has been with a true stretch 4 threat and unless TJones hits 40% of his 3's, you will see Parsons at the 4 a lot.

I expect Harden to see his scoring dip a bit with Howard and the pace to settle down, but I could see Parson's game really thrive.

Parsons is an amazing glue guy and off the ball player. He cuts hard and well, is a big target. He's a good solid shooter who can get even better which is gravy. He runs the floor well and passes decently for his position. He really has no weaknesses for his position. Love Chandler. What I do hope he improves on is his defense. He has the potential, he just needs to regain his defensive energy while maintaining his offensive improvement of last year.

I agree with you. I expect his 3 point shot % and defense to improve this season. At points last year Parsons had to handle too much of the offensive load and as a result his defense suffered. His perimeter defense last year was not as good as previous seasons, but his post defense was vastly improved.

The youngsta improved big time over the 2012 off season. So we can best believe his game will be even better after this off season. #lovehisworkethic

he should be a top five small forward by the start of the season.

    Best center in the game
    ? at PF
    top five SF
    Best Sg in the game
    12-23 PG w/upside.

    from the bench...
Best sweaty rebounder in the game
marlo stanfield with a basketball at pg.
Best shooter on the team in Franco.
Heavier wolf hunter with nice post moves.

We need more fire power from the bench, hopefully both jones and demo make the great leap forward.

I don't see how you can be a big enough fan of the Rockets that you decide to write an article about Parsons, and yet you somehow have missed all the media and press about how the Rockets emphasize everything but mid-range jumpers. To disagree, fine. But he doesn't even address it! You'd think he'd at least have a line like, "Although the Rockets as a general rule detest mid range shots because they are the most inefficient shots in the game, Parsons still needs a mid-range game because..." I'd still disagree with whatever point would come after, but at least I get it.

I'm pretty sure they groomed him to be a player on an elite team.
I'd bet that they explicitly asked him to develop certain skills to be that player and overlook other skills that he would have otherwise aimed to develop.

Any bench anchored by Bev and Asik is going to be competitive at the very least.

Naw, Parsons' mid range game isn't key, but Harden's is.

If he's going to be consistently effective in late game scenarios he will have to be able to sink the mid range J. His step back is already SOOO nice, he'd be a machine. Not to mention the added benefit of being able to pull up during the P&R while D12 is rolling hard to the basket for a potential rebound/putback.

Houston Rockets AIN'T CARE about midrange. Like someone pointed out, he was AWFUL from the 3-wings. He needs to improve that, and he's good.

Could we please stop with the mid-range talk already? Mid-range is the worst shot in basketball, potential rebound, putback? LOL there'd be no chance for a potential rebound or putback if Harden shoots mid-range Js, DH will still be too far from the basket when Harden shoots it. If he waits till Howard gets to the rim, why doesn't he just go to 3 or drive towards the basket then?

The best defense in the NBA defend just the paint and the 3 pt and leave the mid-range wide open. Guys like Melo are unguardable and always get open shots but always get ragged on for being inefficient and taking 30 shots to score 20 pts. Why do you think that's the case? Mid-range shots are for morons, period.

The only one on the team who's allowed the mid-range is our stretch 4 for spacing reasons, and he better not get a lot of possessions in the game.

Midrange is the most inefficient one....unless your name is Patterson or Scola.
Same thing if you can hit it like it is automatic everything else opens up
    (e.g 3 pointer)

Small Forward is a stacked position in the NBA. Top 5 is very lofty goals, perticularly when you are the 3rd option at best on your own team. CP25 may have an all-star caliber season and still not be top 5 SF.

    LeBron
    KD
    Melo
    Pierce
    Paul George
    Deng
    Rudy Gay
    Gallo
    Batum
    Iggy

I'm not saying all of those guys auys are better than CP25 but I just wanted to show how stacked the position is. I think obviously that LeBron and KD are at one level while Melo and George are in the next level. After that I think it gets pretty crowded in the 3rd level of Small Forwards and that is where I think CP25 fits in.
