    Nice gesture, I thought.

HOUSTON (AP) — Former President George H.W. Bush has shaved his head to show solidarity for the sick child of a Secret Service agent.
A statement issued by a Bush spokesman Wednesday says the 89-year-old former president acted earlier this week at his summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine. That was after he saw members of his Secret Service detail with newly shaved heads to show support for the 2-year-old son of an agent. The child is undergoing treatment for leukemia and is losing his hair as a result.

The Bush spokesman identified the boy only as Patrick.

George and Barbara Bush lost their second child, 4-year-old Robin Bush, to leukemia almost 60 years ago.

The security detail has launched a website, www.patrickspals.org , to help with expenses associated with Patrick's treatment.

Cool gesture. My heart goes out to any family who has to deal with these things, especially at an innocent age.

Not controversial enough for D&D apparently, haha.

One of the best ex-presidents with respect to being involved in philanthropic activities. A good model, not just for politicians but for us all.

Was watching this on TV with my wife.
She commented: "Wow, he grew old so fast!"
I told her: "That's his father."

Should have grown out his hair to make a wig for that poor child.

This is what happens when you don't think things through.

    Providing the debate...

Thumbs up to Bush I. D&D angle:
    Bush I only failed as a father - hay-ooo!
For real, I am old enough to have voted for Bush I. I think he was actually a better president than Reagan.

If that poor, poor child didn't have leukemia, his face would make a great internet meme. He just doesn't look that thrilled with the president's gesture.

I agree. Bush I was better than Reagan.

I think it was a nice gesture by Bush.

Because he was a politician, and usually, anything related to politicians sparks some kind of political debate.

You should see all the hateful reader comments on the yahoo! article's page - its a shame when people can't see beyond their partisan hate.

As a welcome respite from the aggravating stupidity in all the other threads. 5 stars.

It's funny how the one-term Bush is now more popular than the two-term Bush. And apparently moreso than the wildly popular Ronald Reagan. I wonder if there'd be more ill-will if he was president longer. Or if he would have been more successful if people liked him less.

I wouldn't call him more popular than Reagan.
