    LOL! That's hilarious.

Well, I've had my photo equipment stolen... but... it's not like I can't buy more of the same, for I'm the photographer/artist that MAKES the photos, not the camera. I think it's hilarious you think it's the instruments that MAKES the music, not the people/musicians. Good stuff right there.

EDIT: mind you, I'm not saying it's not a loss, but... just... the perspective of how they can't recreate the same sound again because those instruments were "unique" is making me laugh.

Why am I not surprised that you cannot comprehend this fairly simple concept? And even less surprised that you want to argue about it?

^ It's fine. I'm not arguing it. You know what comes to mind? The heavy metal musicians who used to break their instruments during a performance... and they STILL made the same music after they broke those instruments.

I guess some people probably need the same instruments to make the same music they'd otherwise not be able to make with different ones.

You are obviously not a musician.

Mistake #1: carrying $70k worth of instruments in DOWNEY.

Mistake #2: leaving your van unattended in DOWNEY.

Mistake #3: staying in a hotel in DOWNEY.

Can you spot the common factor in those mistakes?

    Hint:

It's mother****ing DOWNEY. What did they expect?

yes but those heavy metal musicians usually had replacement instruments with them that were exactly the same or very similar to what they were using onstage - its not like they replaced a Gibson SG with an Ovation..if they broke an SG, they had an SG already tuned and ready to replace it.

For synthesizers..try finding a vintage Roland SH-09 or a Juno 6 in just a few hours to rent for the evening. Different synths can have completely different sounds and functions.

But... but... it's just a keyboard.

Swoly is an idiot. That's a foregone conclusion.

Look on the bright side, Flocking Seagulls. Sonic Youth were able to retrieve some of their gear.

No, of course I'm not a musician, but there's no logic in it even if I was one, rocketsjudoka.
There we go! So get and work with instruments that aren't so "specialized" that in the event you need to replace a part... or the entire thing... you're not running around trying to figure out if it's available, you know? Is that difficult?

I would say I can't believe you're ruining a potentially-hilarious thread, but you can manage it. Of all the myriad ways to mock the flock, you come up with insulting pretty much all musicians aside from those playing inverted oil cans or those traveling groups from Peru who play pan flutes. You probably love those guys.

I'm no artist of musician but I don't know why one can't understand the concert that different tools do allow for different outputs.

I don't see too many professional orchestras busting out merano violins.

I'm sure a PGA golfer would be *totally cool* playing a tourney with borrowed clubs.

keep in mind that it may take hours to reprogram the settings for ONE song into a different synthesizer..especially if your not familiar with that particular synthesizer.

sooo...why don't you throw away your cannon EOS 1DX and go buy a polaroid instamatic for your next wedding?

They still exist as a group? Trippy. The van being ripped off reminds me of the time I was in Naples with a chick. We'd hitched a ride with 5 guys from Baltimore on their way to Greece to go scuba diving, via Italy (the long way around Italy), and we found a cheap hotel in a seedy district of the city. I had a room with the chick about 3 floors up with a balcony. The guys had a room next door. We gathered in my room with massive quantities of vino and got wasted.

I was about to kick them out before I got too drunk to sleep with the blonde I was with when someone on the balcony, leaning over and looking at the street, noticed a handful of Italian teenagers trying to break into their VW van. The Balitmore guys howled and tore off down the stairs to rescue the van, with the girl and I watching from above, insuring the safety of the vino. The Italians ran off and the fellows came back up. They thought the problem solved. A bit later, we spotted the same dudes trying to break into the VW again. Same reaction, and they run off. This time, one of the Baltimore cats grabbed their spear gun out of the van (I kid you not) and declared, "They do that **** again and I'm parking one of these puppies right up their ass!" So, of course, the Italians do it again. This time (I'd had a couple of more glasses by then), I went with them, more curious than anything else. The Italians see the spear gun and take off like a shot. We all go after them down the street. They dive into a bar and as soon as we went in after them, we knew we needed to get the hell out of there, pronto, since half of the men were starting to stand up and move towards the door, and us.

After we got back, a couple of them decided to drive the VW out of town, and come back in the morning. It was a highly entertaining evening. I think the chick and I ended up with maybe a hour's worth of sleep. This was in the spring of 1971. Flock of Seagulls? They made this pop into my head. Thanks for the memories, and hope you get your stuff back.

No, Buck, I don't think so. The manufacturer makes the golf clubs especially for him, and he has a backup set in the equipment van.
And... I hope they keep a backup, man!
Yeah, I can do that. That's not a problem for me. I'm the photographer, not the camera. FYI, I don't have a 1DX.

B-Bob, you see, even THEY can make a buck with cans, flutes made of sticks, etc.

You are correct - When REM played concerts..there's a good reason why Peter Buck played with multiple guitars each show. On their early era songs he plays a Rickenbacker (which gives a stereotypical 80's Jangly sound for their songs like "South Central Rain"). In the late 80's he often played a Gibson SG, and in the 90's he could be seen playing a Fender Stratocaster. Each guitar has a different sound. If he lost is Rickenbacker a few hours before a show, songs like "We Walk" and "South Central Rain" would sound quite a bit different.

yes, but besides framing, positioning, lighting etc..(which I'm sure you're great at since your a professional) the quality of the polaroid is significantly different than what you normally use. The photos would look much different than if you used your normal camera. The same can be said for instruments...especially with synthesizers.

If you're not a musician, then why on Earth would you take such a hard-line stance on something you have no clue about. Who are you to talk about what a musician should or shouldn't do when it comes to their unique instruments? Every musician has his favorite piece of musical equipment that he just absolutely LOVES, and would be devastated if something ever happened to it.

I find it really comical how you end up, time and time again, coming up with these myopic points of view on pretty much any topic imaginable. Is your stance on the world really that limited?

 So you want a professional photographer to use a Polaroid camera, DFWRocket? That's not what I have as a back up during my gigs if my main camera body fails, but... OK, I'll oblige.
Looks like they're not ready for a challenge and also were unprepared!

I have no problem using a Polaroid, if Flock of Seagulls can use a ukulele or a guitar from WalMart. :p
