That should read "what he and non-player-employees CANNOT do."

Whatever publicists Dan Fegan has access to, he has commanded them to go full-out to promote Chandler as one of the important Rockets. Numerous articles have popped up all over the map regarding him; no way that happens without publicists pushing it behind the scenes.

When ESPN talks about Howard to the Rockets, they always mention him joining "James Harden and Chandler Parsons" first, not any other players. Agents have a lot of say when they guide the media in the direction they want.

I have no problem with Parsons getting the spotlight, but there's no coincidence that this media barrage began after he singed with Fegan. Fegan is creating a publicity halo around Chandler (made much easier with his looks and personality) which Fegan will make back in $$ on Chandler's next contract.

The extremely low level of sophistication among sports journalists consistently amazes me.

Excellent post. Parsons is going to get a huge contract.

I'm pretty sure these guys are tired of answering questions about Dwight...in the interview Parsons did with Aldridge at camp USA he looked really annoyed when Aldridge started asking questions about Dwight. I dont blame him.

Chandler Parsons is a really good player. I think he has the potential to be great. I also think that this season we will see just how great he can be. I think he is going to have an even better season. He is a very smart player and I think the knowledge he is gaining from this camp is gonna help him along the way.

And he'll deserve it. Morey has already said Superstars are worth more than the max.

Thanks. I don't really care about all of the media love for CP, I just hope his already mature game keeps growing.

I think people are underestimating just what a cold mother****er Morey can be when it comes time to negotiate a contract, even for well-loved players who played their guts out for us. Think of all those players that were traded and released in the summer of 2011. Lowry, traded. Dragic- let him walk over a player option. Who gave more heart, blood and sweat to the Rockets than Scola? The dude was amnestied.

I don't say this to criticize Morey, because it's his cold-as-ice players-are-assets approach that has us with a contender, not a single bad contract on board, and all of our first rounders plus lots of seconds.

But mark my words- when it comes to negotiating a contract, Morey and Fagan are two of the toughest in the business. When Chandler's contract is up, it will be war. Expect it to drag out to the last possible moment.

Chandler knows its a business. If he doesn't help the team win a championship then he will not be here. Morey has made it clear since day one the goal is a Championship not battlefighting.

Morey gave Scola an offer before he signed an offer sheet. I'm sure he'll do the sme for Parsons if he thinks it's for the best.

You can add fan favorite Carl Landry and a few dozen others to that list. You don't flip a roster completely over a few times in 3 years by giving a ****.

Well, that's Moneyball. Solid young players on good contracts. One or two players worth a little more until you get an All Star. Trade, rinse, repeat.

But I think you're overlooking the fact that Morey's ice-in-his-veins approach was part of the plan to not overpay players so that he could get (at least) two All Stars on the team. And the players he traded (and their agents) had plenty to say about it to the media, who dutifully reported how cold and impersonal Morey is etc etc.

Now that we have Morey and Harden, I think he might relent a bit, at least as far as Parsons. Unless some other uber-All Star says "I want to be in Houston" (which would require cap-clearing moves of Lin and Asik anyway).

Would it be a slap in the face if Morey trades Parson in order to land us the 3rd star?

Funny that Morey's approach is now standard in the NBA after the new CBA. Look at players like Nate Robinson and Jennings on the market. Look at the list of players that signed for less than 3 years with their teams for less money than they thought they'd get. Players are going to have to get used to it.

Actually, I really strongly believe Morey and Fegan had some behind the back agreement to give Parsons big money(by declining the final year of his option) in return for full access to Howard. When it comes to superstars, Morey is very much an ass kisser because he values superstars at ridiculous amount of money. I wouldn't be surprised if he has Howard valued at $30-40mil/yr. If the cost of getting Howard for $20mil/yr is overpaying Parsons, Morey would do that each and every

Well... who else are they going to talk to on the Rockets though? Dwight and Harden are obvious, but who's next is kind of fuzzy. Behind Harden and Howard, Parsons is our next best player and a huge overachiever. Linsanity is over, Bev is known outside Rockets fans as the guy who ended Westbrook's season, and Asik is upset. Not to many options to choose from on the Rockets.

    Agreed.

OR, Beard and D12 can stand in the foreground as Faces of the Franchise, but CP25 just has to be smirking in the background.

    Agreed.

Parsons is a good player, but his production can most likely be replaced rather cheaply by a clever management team such as the Morey management team, either via the draft or by acquiring an inexpensive, undervalued veteran via trade or free agency. Look for Morey to draft a SF next summer, possibly with a draft pick obtained by trading Parsons. Parsons will get his money, but will it be from the Rockets? I doubt it.

It is Morey's cold, objective, unsentimental approach that has the Rockets in a position to dominate the league, so why change that approach?

Parsons' big argument when it comes to free agency: Pay me, Daryl, or I recruit all your good players (including Dwight in 2016) to my new team.
