like you can see from my posts earlier in this thread, I wanted to pimp slap all the vyof'ers for infiltrating the texans game day threads, but you mean to tell me there isn't a spot for vince in some team? blaine gabbert and the sex cannon have roster spots. maybe he was blacklisted after all and not paranoia by his fans. ** **way too familiar of a subject. =)
Why pay a 30 year old QB that hasnt been able to stick to a team when you could spend less on a younger guy who has room to improve? There is a reason no one wants him and I think the fact that he is not willing to play in Canada shows a lot of reason...entitlement. If he were that committed he would be showing off his talent in Canada and earning a paycheck, which is more than he can claim to be doing now
you're right on spending less with younger qbs. but teams are always looking for experience at that position, even if it's for the minimum. We went after Garcia at one point. It's just a little bit odd. Maybe he doesn't want to go to canada because they have no cheesecake factories, ey?
Or it means he doesn't want to play football in Canada. But no, let's make every single one of VY's actions an indictment on his character.
I'm sure Warren Moon didn't "want" to play football in Canada either but it was his only option to show his skill. Isn't one actions typically indicative of ones character?
I haven't seen one up there so you may be onto something As for Garcia...he did have a hot wife so he had that going for him.
You're assuming playing in Canada helps him get into the NFL. Two problems with this: 1. Who is the last NFL QB that went to the CFL and got back into the NFL? 2. The CFL game is a different game. It plays up all of his weaknesses and downplays all of his strengths. If he just wants to play football or make some money, sure, play in the CFL. But if the goal is to make it back into the NFL, there's no logical reason to play in the CFL.
Who cares if no QB has done it recently or not, it can still be done. But if you must know, Casey Printers got a chance in 2007, of course there is logic there. By your very statement "it plays up all of his weaknesses"...well, don't you want to show people that you've improved on your weaknesses? Bottom line is Vince is Vince and he won't change and he's never learned.
That clearly worked out well for him. Just because something can be done doesn't mean it's the best route to take - or even a good one. He has at least as good a chance, if not better, to make the NFL again going his route than the CFL (which is a pretty low chance either way). Depends on what the weaknesses are. If you're Peyton Manning and trying to get back into the league for whatever reason, going to a league where running is essential would be moronic - and unnecessary. VY is out of the league primarily for mental reasons rather than performance ones. Going to a place where you're expected to throw bombs like a madman - which is not remotely what he'd be doing in the NFL - does nothing to help him. And there's no good football reason for a CFL team to take him as a starter, because there are plenty of gunslinger QBs that are out there that make more sense for that league. He'd only be signed somewhere in the CFL for marketing reasons. With good reason - it's a stupid lesson to learn. People act like the CFL is a minor leagues for the NFL. If that were true, this would make some sense, like going to the NBDL or the minors in baseball. But that's simply not what it is - it's a different game, and one where you need a different skillset than the NFL.
Major, I think you're putting way more thought into VYs decision than he did himself. If he wants to play football, then there is only one other place to do that because, more than likely, it will not be in the NFL...although I guess he could go play in europe or arena.
I think he should go to Canada because he's running out of time, and it might be his last chance to get back into football. If he has one really great year in Canada, it might be enough for him to get one last chance in the NFL.
I'm pretty sure he and his agent have had numerous discussions about his options and the best routes for him to take. Sure - if his goal is simply to play football. But if his goal is to play in the NFL, I see no reason he shouldn't pursue a different route, as unlikely as it may be to work out at this point. If he doesn't need to work just for the money, why not chase what he loves?
They are looking for guys to help mentor young QBs...unfortunately for VY he probably wouldn't make much of a mentor, therefore he has a hard time getting a job at QB at his age.
Yeah and his actions have been training and working towards trying to get another chance to prove he belongs in the NFL. He's not sitting on his ass eating Twinkees while demanding someone give him a shot. The latter would be someone with a sense of entitlement. His decision not to go to the CFL in no way shows that he thinks he's entitled to anything. You and Uprising are simply haters. The assumption really is that VY is too stupid or lazy to try to work to get back into the NFL and him not wanting to go to the CFL is proof of that. Nevermind that he's been training and working out in hopes of getting another shot in addition to going back to school to obtain his degree.
The Canadian League pretty much has their rosters solidified by June, so if Vince went there, he would have had to make his decision early in the year and stick with it. Chances of him getting an offer from the NFL in the pre-season are slim if he's balling up in the Great White North. So, he choose to forego the CFL and attempt a comeback this Summer. So far, it hasn't worked out. But he may get a chance if someone gets injured. You never know. He had to make a calculated risk/decision here. Either one carries risk and no guarantees. If he doesn't crack an NFL roster this year, though, it may be time to hang it up or go to Canada indefinitely.
