Like I said, if this allows the Yankees to somehow get out of A-Rod's contract, I'll be mad.

This. I don't care about PED usage one bit, never have and never will. In fact, I think they should just let them all use.

It's his general douchebaggery, arrogance, and throwing people under the bus a la Lance Armstrong that pisses me off.

I think the difference is that in Baseball/Cycling PED can alter the performance in such a way that they can make an average player great. Where as in football, because of its collective nature, the results are minimal. It will help a player recover quicker but it ain't gonna turn Schaub into a a Brett Farve gunslinger.

"I was shocked, I really was, just like many of you were," Rodgers said in a jam-packed press gathering in front of his locker after the Packers' first training camp practice. "I was backing up a friend. He looked me in the eye on multiple occasions and repeatedly denied these allegations and said they were not true.

"So, it is disappointing, not only for myself as a friend, but for obviously Wisconsin sports fans, Brewer fans, really baseball fans. It doesn't feel great being lied to like that and I'm disappointed in the way it all went down."

Rodgers said he has talked to Braun since the Brewers outfielder was slapped with a 65-game suspension, all but admitting that he was guilty of taking PEDs. He said he wasn't sure whether they would continue their restaurant business dealings together.

"That's yet to be determined," Rodgers said. "I don't regret backing a friend up. Obviously in hindsight a more measured approach would obviously be a better course of action. I definitely believe in forgiveness and moving forward. He has a tough task in front of him moving forward with his career, on and off the field.

"As far as the business goes, right now I'm focused on football and I have people who can help me with those issues."

Asked if he still considered Braun a friend, Rodgers said:

"I was disappointed in the way it went down. ... I trusted him. That's the thing that probably hurts the most."

I stopped paying attention to all this steroid stuff.

But why a ban for A-Rod?

He lied to them and/or they have "more info" on him (than the others) and they want to send a message and A-Rod won't cut a deal with them, plans to appeal, so they're gonna throw the book at him.

In banning Rodriguez for life Selig could invoke Article XII (B) of the CBA, which states:

“Players may be disciplined for just cause for conduct that is materially detrimental or materially prejudicial to the best interests of baseball, including, but not limited to, engaging in conduct in violation of federal, state or local law.”

MLB will contend that, in addition to lying about performance-enhancing drug use, Rodriguez lied to MLB officials while attempting to sabotage their investigation, according to one of the people.

As to whether he is truly banned or suspended for life,...

What really ticks me off about this whole player scandal is the message to the fans seems to be that the players will take their suspensions basically because they have to but there is still this perception that the players are somehow getting railroaded like they didn't really do anything wrong and they don't have to answer to anyone publicly about it. So, the perception is the MLB is acting with a heavy fist and the players are almost just taking it because they have to while, for appearances sake, players act like they are still doing it the right way as nobody knows who did what wrong where...like they just got caught up in something innocent that went terribly wrong or something.

I'm sure Braun is still acting like he is Mr. Innocent and he just took the suspension as he basically has to and didn't want to fight any more (this after his speech last season about how "innocent" he is). And, he makes comments like "I don't get to tell my side of the story" as part of the suspension deal.

So, players being suspended are going to pretend that they didn't really do anything wrong but can't talk about it as it is a league matter? What a crock! If this whole thing unfolds and we don't get the details, then that is going to be ridiculous. They either intentionally acted illegally taking PEDs while trying to get around league testing or they didn't. Don't give me this "in-between" bull and "I don't get to tell my side of the story" garbage.

And, this after the supposed cleaning up of the league. The whole league looks like a freaking joke right now when it comes to PEDs and these players especially.

    Is A-Rod legitimately nuts?

A-Rod also dropped strong hint that he thinks Yankees are behind effort to ban him, to get out of contract.
— Danny Knobler (@DannyKnoblerCBS) August 3, 2013
