Thanks for adding value to this thread Maybe there is a buyout clause or something..but thanks though!
This may be the ideal solution for us Houston fans, but the Astros and CSN execs would be devastated. There is very little chance they'd ever get to back to the table to expand their carriage. This was just a bust.
I agree, it's a longshot, but that "very little chance" is better than the 0% shot if they were to agree to a sports-tier compromise. The bottom line to me is that it's clear the status quo isn't going to accomplish anything. If they CSN powers are committed to running this for another year or more before folding up shop, they need to try something different to at least give more visibility to their product. I imagine FSSW, despite the harsh words said by the Astros/Rockets on their exit, would agree to take the teams back pretty quickly. They know there's a hole for them in the Houston market, so hopefully a deal could come together quickly if/when the Astros and Rockets decide to throw in the towel on CSN.
I called DTV last night to find out what my cancellation fee stands at currently if I wanted to cancel in October to go to Comcast. I specifically told them it was because of CSN and they offered me an additional $15 off my bill each month for 12 months. This is on top of the discounts I've already received. I now stand at: $25 a month in bill credits, free Showtime for 6 more months, free Starz for 6 more months. I'm hoping to get enough in credits to completely pay for a new router for my house that can handle DD-WRT and the monthly subscription fee for a VPN.
Yeah bro. Most contracts have an opt-out clause. Similar to the one you probably have with your cell phone carrier.
http://www.amazon.com/BUFFALO-AirSt...374591213&sr=8-1&keywords=buffalo+n600+router That's the Buffalo Airstation I use. It comes pre-loaded with a professional version of DD-WRT. I personally flashed the community version, but that should take care of everything without even needing to flash anything. I personally never tried it on the professional version just the community build so I do want to point that out. I however do imagine you should be okay.
How long have you had it? Any stability issues? How big is your house? I have a 2 story home and want to make sure whatever router I get has sufficient range to get me strong wifi on the Roku that is in an upstairs bedroom.
All depends on the contract. Without actually reading it, we'd have no idea if there's one or not. There are certain contracts that absolutely, positively do not have opt out clauses.
The FSSW deal does not have an opt-out. FSN already did a renegotiation with the providers to give them money back in the Houston market. They are placated.
I think it's somewhere around 2100 square feet. It's a two story as well and the range is awesome. Router is also dual band so you might be able to get better range depending on what band is in use. Stability is insane and the best I've ever had from a router. I haven't rebooted it since I got it (February). Unless you count the times my power goes out due to a bad storm.
I went ahead and scheduled a switch to Comcast for 7/30. The Quad Play Package saved me $100 a month over what I was paying for Land Line/Uverse/ a slower internet connection and the same home security. They added their streaming service ($4.99 mo) too, and assured me their streaming shows have closed caption ability (unlike Netflix). The guy on the phone walked through buying a modem for $57 instead of paying $7 a month to rent theirs. And they locked in the price for 2 years. One giant corporation or another, who cares?
