Whoah, I had the opposite reaction. I thought this was a slightly biased article that actually brought up good points that AREN'T often mentioned in the GARM. He pointed out good reasons why Asik and Howard would not co-exist well together (probably) and sort of refuted the go-to statement of those who think they can (and scream, but look at him and Gortat!). The idea that Howard may get annoyed if Asik takes more minutes is fair. He cares what people think. Fans might turn on him a bit in favor of Asik if Howard doesn't come out of the gate hot. I can see that, and I can see him being bothered by that. Not saying he'll suddenly suck, but it is an interesting question and dynamic to consider.
Exactly, what he gets is 25 million dollars and if he does well as a backup here, his next deal will be a hell of a lot bigger somewhere else.
Morey will not trade Asik until 1. the fire sale fever has calmed down and 2. he's absolutely certain he can't pry away LMA.
I didn't look up the stats for Howard's final run but isn't it possible that the had the success they had that year because Gortat was there to prevent second unit from collapsing offensively and defensively? Maybe that is why Howard is interested in playing with Asik? How many time do we see the lead squandered away when the starters get rested. The quality of 2nd unit is underrated and under appreciated in this star oriented league.
Yahoo isn't always Yahoo, nowadays. Even Forbes has a hilariously-unqualified blogger section - when you link to those "articles", they all still say "Forbes" on them. It's a great sign for journalism when companies care more about the bottom line than upholding brand standards.
poor average player, you mean?? i dont know where you get the most rebound in the league.. Omer Stats is 10.1 ppg 11.7 rpg 1.1 bpg .. Dwight is 17.1 ppg 12.4 rpg 2.4 bpg and was recovery from surgery while playing..
Brilliant comment. Asik likely won't be traded at all this year because I don't think Morey could get anyone back who would be as valuable to the team as Asik could be. Preventing the team from sucking when Howard is on the bench is pretty huge when it comes to holding on to leads or keeping games close.
Once you get past the writers cheap shots at Howard he makes valid points. Howard complained about D'Antoni having them run too much and not slowing it down and working the ball into him. Harden and McHale probably agreed to do that. And that helps Harden because many of his turnovers are a result of pushing the pace. Having less turnovers may mean an extra shot or assist for him or one of his teammates. Greg Smith and Asik where able to play together because they weren't really depended on for scoring. Howard will be and Asik isn't going to draw a defender away from the basket to help clear the paint for him. Asik would be good to have to back up Howard. But I still think Morey should trade him if he can get what he wants. Howard should play 33-35 minutes a game... So why keep Asik for 13-15 minutes a game when they can upgrade one of the starting positions and or other spots on the bench.
Because what you could get for Asik in trade wouldn't help the team as much as Asik would backing up Howard.
Asimov has the most total really rebounds. He played in every game. But what I don't get is that we spent all this time with no real center. Now we have to caliber centers and everybody wants to ship one out. If u guys wanna go a lil deeper in those Playoffs we would want Asik to be our backup....At least for now
I still believe Asik and Howard can play together and will be beautiful come playoff time. Defense wins championships. With them as our defensive anchors, almost all opponents will be essentially perimeter players and that means they have to beat us at shooting while we just continuously pound the ball inside and get fouled, surely one of the best way to take out players from to opposing side. While free throws can be a liability, getting fouled can certainly outweigh them if Rockets can get fouled earlier. I just hope Asik and Howard can work more with their free throws more than Shaq when he practiced with somebody like Ed Palubinskas.
