Heat can offer more than the minimum, I doubt they will.
    Chicago, I'm unsure.
Rockets too, can offer more than the minimum, I doubt they will.

Thanks. Guess the Heat makes the most sense.

True, but Heat have no good center so he even has a small chance at starting and will get some good minutes. With us and McHale's history, there's no way he will see the court unless Greg Smith and Asik are injured.

I think he gets minutes over Greg Smith. McHale wasn't too happy with what he was getting from Smith in the second half of last season. But, he might get more burn with the Bulls -- doesn't he just have to beat out Nazr Mohammed for minutes as the primary backup at center?

Yes. He'd have to beat out Birdman for the backup spot in Miami, as well. He'd BE the backup here. I still think we have the best to offer. He can mentor Greg Smith, D-Mo, and T-Jones. Especially Terrence, because I think he can be a great shot blocker/defender if someone invests in him.

Keep in mind that the Heat are "co-favorites" with San Antonio for Greg Oden and appear unlikely to sign both Oden and Camby. The fact that they're waiting out Oden seems to indicate that he's a higher priority for them than Camby.

But he still has to wait until a blowout to get minutes with Asik being a much better center. The Bulls are not a contender so the Heat and Rockets are both better choices.

    True!

Birdman is basically the best backup center in the nba (at least after Asik ceases to be a backup again)

Camby has maybe one season left of serviceable work, if that. If he wants a ring he should go to the Heat. If he wants to retire at home and pass some knowledge on to young guys and lose in the 2nd round, he should play for the Rockets.

At this stage of his career, why does he even care about minutes?

I suspect that the Bulls w/ a healthy D. Rose will be neck and neck w/ the Pacers (i.e., right behind Miami in the East).

So basically, Camby is signing with the Rockets unless some team at the last minute wants to pony up and significantly increase their dollar amount on their offer.

    cool.

Well, even if Marcus doesn't sign with the Rockets, he's got one thing over Royce White...

Will almost have to be Miami.

He's reportedly considering Houston, Miami and Chicago. Chicago only has the minimum after giving its $3M tax-payer midlevel exception to Mike Dunleavy. Miami still has its own tax-payer midlevel exception. Houston has the $2.652M room midlevle exception.

I guess the hope would be that one of Miami or Houston decides to pay him more in order to secure him. Not sure it'll happen, particularly given that Miami is a tax-payer.

Don't players do their physicals after they are signed and in case they fail, it is not going to happen?

Well there you have it. Should be our last signing, at least during preseason.

    Lin / Beverley / Brooks / Canaan
    Harden / Williams
    Parsons / Garcia / Casspi
TJones / DMo / Greg Smith
    Howard / Asik / Camby

That's 15. If the Rockets want to keep Covington or Young, they will have to do a consolidation trade by sending out more players than they take in. PG and PF/C are obviously the most likely targets.
