Really? There is a list of abortion clinic bombings on wikipedia, mostly perpetuated by Christian fanatics, and that's just for the abortion issue. There have been several mosque attacks within the past few months; just look it up. I don't necessarily agree with the statement you were responding to, but come on
Actually, I wasn't clear. SOME religious leaders have influenced their congregrations negatively toward other races of people in the past, and this has caused much more damage. Religion is no doubt a positive thing. The teachings of the New Testament are, no doubt, a positive thing. The way religion is interpreted by some? Not so good.
Yea I guess there are some fanatics out there but I don't see a correlation between that and what the guy posted . I'm not really religious nor do I keep up with the abortion thing but aren't most of those carried out by individuals or some kind of small fringe group of fanatics ? I haven't stepped inside a church in many years but I'm guessing it doesn't really fall into the basic christian beliefs like love , forgiveness etc ..
Yeah well, the relationship of rappers to any given young black man is probably even more distant than that between a religious leader and a religious zealot.
No, of course the recent history is not like that. I believe that when you attend most religious ceremonies, they do preach love, forgiveness, etc. But that hasn't always been the case- that was my only point. There are so many more factors involved in molding a young person than negative rap music.
People can be influenced by many factors . The weaker one's mind the greater these influences can become .
well duh there are other factors. You can't address the one factor in question -- you choose to dance around it instead. Deflection is a clear sign that you can't defend yourself on the point in question.
Wow, really? I didn't know that! Show me a study that conclusively links hip-hop to black crime rates and a feasible plan to reduce consumption or change said genre of music. If you can do that, then maybe this entire "rap" tangent won't have been a gigantic waste of time.
Oh, please. You are so wrong so often on this board it's not even funny. And when you are wrong, you pull your stupid "I control your thoughts" and "I win!" nonsense. What is your point about rap music, anyway? You didn't really make that clear- so there's no "point" in question. I guess I won that one, eh?
OK, so I'm assuming this is your point. Rap's messages HAVE a negative impact (not "are", BTW). Care to back this up with statistics? Oh, and I'll answer your question- I think rap music helps youth. First, because many rap songs have fairly sophisticated lyrics (compared to pop music), it can serve as a means for expanding their vocabulary. Second, it presents a point of view for them to consider, even if that point of view is negative. This is the same as an R-rated movie like Taxi Driver- do you want to emulate the character, or do you want to use him as an example of what NOT to be like? I think that the more points of view youth are exposed to, the better. Third, I do believe there are rap songs with lyrics that I personally find distasteful. But I also find many things that Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, etc. say are distasteful, as well. Should I not listen to them? No, of course I listen to them (in Lubbock, you don't have a choice- there are no liberal talk shows). Censorship is not the issue. But I'll wait for those statistics of yours, just like the proof you asked of another poster. You want to debate with the big boys, son, you need to put your big boy pants on and bring us those numbers. Otherwise, your opinion is pretty suspect- and fairly racist, seeming as how you connected "blacks" and rap music with food stamps and linguistic ability.
Now what? There are news reports that George Zimmerman pulled two people out of a vehicle after it crashed. If he saved these people, they owe their lives to Zimmerman and the jury that found Zimmerman not guilty. I will be looking forward to hearing the race of those rescued. What will the NAACP do if they are black?
LOL! Yes that's what Martin said. "You will die tonight" LOL! Martin wasn't even a real person but actually a bad guy from early 90's films, and that's why he talked like that.
Oops! It was four people and a couple of days ago. With all the zeal by major media to excoriate Zimmerman, I wonder why this is just surfacing. BTW, mc mark, do you not believe in the American jury system? Zimmerman indeed shot Martin to death but the jury ruled Zimmerman did not murder him. There is a big difference. http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Latest-News-Wires/2013/0722/George-Zimmerman-rescues-four-people-in-SUV-crash
Both were found not guilty by juries ... so you are correct. They are not murderers, at least regarding the respective instances for which they were tried.
