What's a bit amusing to me is that Cuban could open his wallet and grab Rosas (which I don't doubt is what happened... high salary, a step up in job title), but he hasn't been able to grab the players he wants. Heck, Rosas could end up the top guy under Cuban if he can get results and build that roster. It'll take time, but Nelson is probably on his way out.

What kills teams like Dallas and the Lakers is that they have done such a poor job of "developing young talent" and thus don't have those "asset reserves" to be used for trades or for augmenting the roster. Generally those teams are arrogant and figure they can just buy their way out of anything.

My guess is Cuban is looking at Rosas as someone that can help find talent (good 2nd rounders or Euro players like Beverley) to help bolster the Mavs roster with trade ammunition.

We are fine, Harden and Howard replaced them as assistant GM anyway.

how long before Hakeem is hired away?

Morey will be like Parcells/Belechik with his disciples spread around the league.

Dallas is already an analytic-heavy team, so this hire probably just complements what they already do instead of signaling a total shift in direction like Philly hiring Hinkie while firing the Doug Collins regime.

I think Morey has a fairly good network in the league right now. In addition to the former Rockets guys, he also worked with Ainge and his crew in Boston, including new Suns GM Ryan McDonough. Also, all kinds of NBA guys go to the Sloan conference co-hosted by Morey.

nelson is probably on the hot seat after letting the roster fade into the sunset. they missed out on pairing dwight with either paul or dwill... rosas could be the main guy there, as you said, if he can build a young up and coming roster.

the fact that they are rivals with us makes it almost a moot point though. they will probably avoid helping us at all costs regardless of who is working there. only in the event that we or they need to facilitate a 3 team deal, the working relationship is there to partner up.

the guy i'm most excited for is hinkie. being in the eastern conference, he and morey are more free to trade. it's just too bad that holiday and iggy aren't on that team anymore.

All these Morey guys are extremely shrewed. I don't think we can get any kind of deals done with them. Its like 2 guys at a market trying to bargain with each other -- one is the vendor one is the buyer. They will be so stingy no deal will ever get done. The biggest trade Morey will ever do with his disciples will be the Royce White deal. And now he has too much competition around the league and his methods will no longer be secret -- in fact, it is already so widely spread.

This is the nature of a free market and why choice and competition lead to overall better quality and efficiency. There is constant pressure to improve and get better. Slowly but surely the incompetency is getting filtered out of NBA front offices and the league will be better for it.

If Morey is as good as everyone says he should be able to replace these people.

It's because Harden and Dwight are the new GMs. Morey lost control, so the front office is jumping ship.

I think that this is what happens when you do things successfully. I think that it means that the Rockets are doing things right and A LOT of the League seems to be taking notice.

True, but IMO it's quite likely, with Rosas out of the Rockets picture, that Morey will not appear nearly so adept regarding future trades and acquisitions.

One would hope that they would promote from within, if possible. Guys like Gersson and Hinkie may want to bring their team with them.

I wonder how many team owners out there are throwing their checkbooks towards Moaree. It would be a matter of time before someone throws an offer that raises his eye brows. I don't trust Le$ enough to make the right decision.

Simple, everybody wants to be a GM... I can't fault them for trying to further their careers and I wish them all the best, just don't make the Mavericks to good haha!
