Hmm. I'm hearing from you that I have to run an app (CCleaner) before starting up LP Broadband while some others are saying a Free VPN service alone would be sufficient to start LP Broadband. Can anyone confirm if just running a VPN would be sufficient?
Yup, for all those interested in using the VPN. Always clean your cookies/cache before starting the VPN. Especially if you frequent www.nba.com while you're not connected to the VPN. Everyone is free to choose what VPN provider they use, I personally used www.privateinternetaccess.com and it worked great for me. If you have DirecTV and an Android device, I also know how to bypass the NBATV blocks. You must have an internet connected receiver. Basically, the DirecTV app that lets you watch TV while connected to your home wi-fi network will not recognize blackout restrictions. (The iPad app does). I then bought an usb to HDMI adapter and hooked it up to my TV.
So I thought running the VPN would mask your IP? Why would it matter if the cookie cache was cleaned out before running? (for my knowledge)
There's no way to stopping this method. Someone mentioned it before, they can possibly block certain subnets and IP addresses, but for them to figure them all out, would be next to impossible. They know this method exists, but not many people are smart enough to successfully use it.
To each his own, but this does violate the terms of service you agree to when subscribing to League Pass.
It does mask your IP, but the cookies store the information initially. One of things I also tested out during the season is that if you cleared your cookies, logged on via VPN, and then disconnected your VPN to use your normal internet connection, league pass would still work without blackouts. Awesome, So I can buy a simple Android tablet and a USB to HDMI cord and hook that up to my directv receiver and watch the games. Thats sweet. I wonder how much LP Broadband is....
Yup, just have to make sure the tablet you have is capable of doing so, not all devices will work. I can confirm the Nexus 7 will not work with this. I just personally used my smartphone and kept it charging during the video stream.
Yeah but I don't think you're violating the terms if you're already paying for LP Broadband. The fact that we have to use VPNs to "unblock" the stream to watch the Rockets in the Houston area should be legal. The CSN HOUSTON has monopolized and restricted the ability of the majority fan base IN HOUSTON to watch their own teams. Blackouts should only be valid if all major provider customers in the Houston area (Dish, UVERSE, Direct TV, Comcast) can fairly subscribe to CSN Houston to watch Rockets games. We as Houston area fans have no choice. The only reason I am considering to get LP Broadband is because I'm forced to. I would think that paying for the LP service would give me the right to find a way to watch my home team.
won't masking your ip somehow reduce your internet connection? I'm concerned if i pay for league pass then do this process I might end up with a bad picture or laggy experience. If this isn't the case i most likely will go this route, since i have no faith CSN Houston will be available to Uverse before the season starts.
I'm not disagreeing with what you're saying, I'm just putting it out there for those who asked or wondered. I've done this for a while now, nothing is going to happen to you by using a VPN.
This is correct and especially true for those of you using FREE vpn services. I used a paid VPN service and still got about 75 percent of my available bandwidth. Over 15mbps down. Now if you have a 1.5mbps DSL connection, don't even think about using a VPN. You might want to upgrade your internet first.
Does LP Broadband give a "trial week" like the cable subscription at the beginning of the season? This way I could experiment with my free VPN service and determine whether it would be worth it to pay for LP. Secondly, you mentioned earlier that one could turn on VPN just to launch LP Broadband and then turn off VPN immediately after without losing the connection. If I followed this approach, would my internet connection speed still be compromised?
I believe they only do a trial week for cable/satellite. Not for internet. No, your connection will drop, but you will still be able to re-connect. For example: 1. Clear your cookies 2. Log into League Pass 3. Start your game 4. Disconnect your VPN. 5. Your normal internet connection should kick in, and then just re-launch the game (assuming you didn't close your windows) and it will play.
